“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys”—P. J. O’Rourke
Here is the antidote to Nationalized Health Care. It’s our government and we should be able to do what is best for us. I propose that we throw the whole Congress and Senate out of office. Institute six (6) year term limits retroactively in the house and twelve (12) years in the Senate, and refuse to allow them to become bureaucrats by playing musical chairs… no skipped second term. Take away their ability to vote themselves raises and retroactively take away their lifetime pensions, tie their raises to the cost of living. Make this a true opportunity to serve our country. This is the same medicine that they prescribed for AIG during a fit of political mania and it is only right that they be held to the same standard….

Require that every member of the House and Senate go under the same plan as all Americans, including the president. Mandate that if they voted for this bill they are required, unless they pay out of pocket for health care, that they and their immediate families are required to go under the public health plan until their demise. One of the biggest swindles in history is that they have excluded themselves from this health care plan. We can submit to a populist government for four (4) years while we straighten out things in Washington DC. Put in office a populist shadow government, those representatives whom we can trust to protect and serve our interests. Outlaw pork, require that they cannot tag their ‘pet projects’ or ‘good legislation’ to other bills, give power back to the states, reinstitute a “Constitutional Government”, institute a testing system with public access to test scores, to insure that each legislator understands and have read each bill they vote upon. Stop cheating as in allowing speed readers [on staff] to tell them what a bill is about. Set up a testing and reporting system that tells each American how and why each voted for every bill before them. In other words we The People want what Obama promised… complete transparency…

Socialists and others who feel Government is the answer to all of our problems breeds the resentment of the free market where the ability to fail or succeed is inherent. Business, on one hand wants to be sheltered from failure and on the other they want their competition to fail. It is that undeniable juxtaposing of two incompatible thoughts that makes the Socialist what he is and terrifies the Capitalist. If America goes to Socialism… we all will suffer.

In total self serving arrogance and a narcissistic desperate-quest to be accepted by others Barack Obama has apologized to the world to wit; “Although we have a large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation, or a Jewish nation, or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.” Did Barack Obama, while attending Muslim school in Indonesia, fail to attend American History class? No, Mr. Obama, we may not be a totally Christian nation but we have Christian values and inarguably we were established on the Christian principles of our founding fathers. Depending upon whose poll you are looking at, 75-85 percent of Americans believes in God and espouses Christian values. To the contrary, you [Sir] will not change that by giving speeches of appeasement in foreign lands. We are a land where freedom of religion is hallowed ground, where religion more than any other is what defines us, where church steeples across America dot the landscape, where bibles abound, where generosity is plentiful, where Christian children’s names are the most popular and most importantly where Christianity flourishes.

An Unconstitutional America – Part 2

…By its very nature government must have supreme power to rule and to govern. It is for this very reason why our Constitution was written in the way it was. We as individual citizens have the absolute power to decide for ourselves what is constitutional and what isn’t constitutional. We as individual citizens have the absolute power to force the government to prove in a court of law that its actions against us are within the strict limitations of the constitution. Finally we can cast our vote for individuals who will support and defend the Constitution and who will insure that our individual rights are fully protected.

In part 1 of this 2 part series on unconstitutional America, we look at several just passed, proposed or pending legislation:

S. 773 -Bill Allows for Government to Shut Down Internet In Time of Crisis (2009)

H.R.675 – To amend title 10, United States Code, to provide police officers, criminal investigators, and game law enforcement officers of the Department of Defense with authority to execute warrants, make arrests, and carry firearms. (2009)

H.R. 645 – National Emergency Centers Establishment Act of 2009

HR:1388 – The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009

H.R. 45 – Blair Holt Firearms Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

HR 3200 America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009

Today we will list more pending, proposed or recently Passed Unconstitutional Legislation:

H.R.2454 – American Clean Energy And Security Act of 2009
Creates an unjust burden on citizens by raising utility rates by multiples and raising the price of literally every thing from food to medical services and goods to toys to cars to magazines from manufacturers and suppliers costs being passed along to consumers. This will, purposely, as President Obama said in his campaign, lower the standard of living for citizens in order to save energy. The thing is, this sweeping, unconstitutional, falacial legislation, which generates untold wealth for GE (NBC) and Goldman Sachs (leaders in the newly created “carbon credit” field) is based on make believe and does virtually NOTHING to help the environment.

S. 560 The Employee Free Choice Act of 2009

Is ANYTHING BUT! This bill would do away with secret ballots in the workplace for union voting. You have seen how the SEIU treats everyday citizens at Health Care Rallies, so it does not take a genius to foretell what will happen dare you vote against allowing the union to “THUGATE” your workplace. Unions used to be a good thing, but in recent history they are anything but. They are corruption filled entities hell bent on wealth for the higher ups and run just like the mob and the new national government administration. Since when is OK in America to NOT have a secret ballot? Since when in America is OK to allow intimidation in voting. Maybe this is why it was OK to have the Black Panther members intimidate voters in Philidelphia and why not much federal stink was made about ACORN co-opting our elections.

H.R. 2749 – America’s Food Safety Act of 2009.. which has already passed in the House of Representatives
Food Czar Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto exec, helped draft the Food Safety Bill. So much for the small farmer or maybe even the home gardener :

According to Gunny G Online: “This astounding control will include the elimination of organic farming by eliminating manure, mandating GMO animal feed, imposing animal drugs, and ordering applications of petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides. Farmers, thus, will be locked not only into the industrialization of once normal and organic farms but into the forced purchase of industry’s products.” HR 2749 creates severe criminal and civil penalties, including prison terms of up to 10 years and/or fines of up to $100,000 for each violation. Does it include judicial review, Congressional oversight, a defined and limited set of penalties and punishments for a defined set of “crimes”? Not even. The so called Food Safety Bill hands carte blanch enforcement to the whims of Obama’s Food Czar.

H.R.1 – American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (this became law)

The Stimulus Bill –

This is the economic stimulus package that was passed by Congress on Feb. 13, 2009 and signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17. The final version is estimated by the Congressional Budget Office to cost $787 billion over the 2009-2019 period. To date, estimates are showing only 11% of the money has been spent to date.. they must mean long term stimulus. Our government is wasting the money they have taken from our pockets, to redistribute the wealth to things like ACORN, studies for things like the Marsh Mouse (Pelosi’s district), grants for stuff we neither want or need, other special interest funding, etc… Do you realize, this being only one of the “porkulus” bills passed this year, that if they would have just given the same amount of money back to the taxpayers, every man, woman and child in the country would have been given $2400.. for a family of four that’s almost ten grand! Now that, fellow citizens, would have stimulated the economy! But that would not meet the Washington agenda, would it?

This list continues, but I feel my point is well made. The government is hell bent on taking our money, our liberty, our freedom… and has insured on doing so to our great, great grandchildren by continuing the spending spree well beyond any means we have to pay back the debt. The “never let a good crisis go to waste philosphy” made famous by Rahm Emanuel and practiced by both the Bush and Obama Whitehouse, we are being forced into socialist policies that go against the very Constitution the people in Washington have sworn to uphold. We have more CZARs than Russia has had in it’s entire history- by more than double! Czars are merely away around you, your representatives and your constitution. IS THIS NOT TREASON? This is not politics as usual. This is PURPOSEFUL DEMISE OF AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT! Please, get involved. If you can attend the MARCH ON WASHINGTON on 09/12/09 – COME! There are buses leaving nearly all medium and larger towns throughout the country. It is your duty as an American to speak out against the assult to our freedom and founding documents. If you can not attend the rally in DC, there will rallies ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY THAT SAME DAY! Find one near you and just go. You do not need a sign unless you want one. You just need your body and your voice.

News for 08/29/2009- An Unconstitutional America

I will here begin to lay out what is happening in aggregate. This is only the first part of a two part series of how our government (both parties) are taking our liberties and defying the constitution over and over and over again. They are giving away our soveriegnty as a nation as well.

The Obama Adminstration, following on the heels of the unconstitutional acts of the Bush Administration, is carrying the ball so much further. Under first Bush and now Obama we have nationalized the banks and manufacturing and are well on our way to nationalizing health care, energy, and the air waves. Now they want the power to control the internet. This is not the America I know. This is literally becoming a socialist government, which defies the Constitution of the United States of America.  Please join us for the March on Washington DC on 09/12/2009. The Declaration of the United States of America states:

“We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are institituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles and organizing it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.”

The US Constitution and You

http://jim_hayden1.tripod.com/you.htm

The United States Constitution begins with the words, “We the People”.  Very simply put that means the we the people hold the only sovereign power to rule ourselves and not the government. We the People have established a set of laws by which the government must abide by and we the people have by these laws authorized the government certain powers as dictated by the Constitution.  This set of absolute laws tells the government exactly what it can and what it cannot do.  It says government you may go this far and no further.  Whenever the government violates any of these absolute laws We the People have the right No the responsibility to totally ignore them.   Under a decision by the United States Supreme Court in 1828 any laws passed by the Congress that is in direct violation to or which is contrary to the United States Constitution is not a law.  This decision is also known as the Marshal decision and is the standing rule of constitutional law. We have got to wake up to the fact that the government no matter what form it might take is not our friend but is in fact our worst enemy.  It is the inherent nature of government to seek absolute power over the governed.  By its very nature government must have supreme power to rule and to govern.

S. 773 -Bill Allows for Government to Shut Down Internet In Time of Crisis

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10320096-38.html

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet. They’re not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773, which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency. The new version would allow the president to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” relating to “non-governmental” computer networks and do what’s necessary to respond to the threat. Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program for “cybersecurity professionals,” and a requirement that certain computer systems and networks in the private sector be managed by people who have been awarded that license. “I think the redraft, while improved, remains troubling due to its vagueness,” said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which counts representatives of Verizon, Verisign, Nortel, and Carnegie Mellon University on its board. “It is unclear what authority Sen. Rockefeller thinks is necessary over the private sector. Unless this is clarified, we cannot properly analyze, let alone support the bill.” Representatives of other large Internet and telecommunications companies expressed concerns about the bill in a teleconference with Rockefeller’s aides this week, but were not immediately available for interviews on Thursday.

H.R.675 – To amend title 10, United States Code, to provide police officers, criminal investigators, and game law enforcement officers of the Department of Defense with authority to execute warrants, make arrests, and carry firearms.

 http://www.infowars.com/hr-675-building-obamas-civilian-national-security-force/

In January, without any recognizable corporate media coverage, Rep. Bob Filner, a California Democrat, introduced H.R. 675. The bill would amend title 10 of the United States Code and extend to civilian employees of the Department of Defense the authority to execute warrants, make arrests, and carry firearms. The bill was referred to the Armed Services Committee on January 26, 2009. Filner’s bill would amend the United States code with the following: “Sec. 1585b. Law enforcement officers of the Department of Defense: authority to execute warrants, make arrests, and carry firearms… for any offense against the United States.” (Emphasis added.) The Posse Comitatus Act, passed on June 18, 1878 after the end of Reconstruction, limits the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. The Act prohibits members of the federal uniformed services from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain “law and order” on non-federal property within the United States. H.R. 675 sidesteps Posse Comitatus by defining “law enforcement officer of the Department of Defense” as “a civilian employee of the Department of Defense,” including federal police officers, detectives, criminal investigators, special agents, and game law enforcement officers classified by the Office of Personnel Management Occupational Series 0083 (the United States Office of Personnel Management is described as an “independent agency” of the U.S. government that manages the civil service of the federal government).

US FEMA CAMPS: a little background

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=7763

FEMA was created on April 1, 1979 pursuant to President Jimmy Carter’s Executive Order 12127. It amalgamated the Federal Insurance Administration, the National Fire Prevention and Control Administration, the National Weather Service Community Preparedness Program, the Federal Preparedness Agency and the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration activities formerly carried out by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. It also took over Civil Defense from the Department of Defense, which was in charge of preparing citizens for military attack. In 1993 Bill Clinton turned the directorship of FEMA into a Cabinet position. In 2003 FEMA became part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Directorate. The stated purpose of FEMA is to “reduce the loss of life and property and protect the Nation from all hazards, including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters, by leading and supporting the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation.”

Readiness Exercise 1984 (REX-84) is an emergency response program involving the implementation of martial law, the movement of civilian populations and the arrest and detainment of segments of the population. …
Operation Garden Plot is a United States Army and National Guard program under control of the US Northern Command (NORTHCOM) to provide Federal military support during domestic civil disturbances. ..Executive Order was made to permit the use of the Federal army to uphold domestic laws pursuant to the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act, which places restrictions on the domestic use of the military for law enforcement purposes.

Recently, however, Section 1076 Public Law 109-364, or the “John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007” (H.R.5122) has amended Posse Comitatus and The Insurrection Act (which also places limits on domestic military deployment) to allow the Federal government to unilaterally take control of state National Guards and position Federal troops anywhere in the country during a ‘public emergency’.Throughout the 1960s numerous Presidential Executive Orders were issued authorizing Federal agencies to take over essential functions in the case of a declared emergency. The powers include, among many others, the authority of the Federal government to take over transportation infrastructure including highways and seaports (10990), food resources and farms (10998) and mobilize citizens into government supervised work brigades (11000).

On May 9, 2007 President George Bush reasserted the role of the Federal government during a declared emergency by issuing Executive Order NSPD 51/ HSPD-20. The Order states that in the event of a ‘catastrophic emergency’ all ‘national essential functions’ may be taken over by the Executive branch of government and the Department of Homeland Security (including FEMA).The United States Federal Emergency Management Agency has numerous detainment camps throughout the United States. Some camps have been recently constructed and / or renovated and are fully staffed. The existence of the camps coupled with Presidential Executive Orders giving the President and Department of Homeland Security (of which FEMA is now part) control over ‘national essential functions’ in the event of ‘catastrophic emergency’ have resulted in concerns that the camps will be used to forcefully detain American citizens for unconstitutional purposes.

ENTER H.R. 645 – National Emergency Centers Establishment Act

HR 645- Congress Acts To Authorize and Legalize FEMA Camps

http://www.dailypaul.com/node/80801

A new bill has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives called the National Emergency Centers Act or HR 645. This bill, if passed into law, will direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish national emergency centers otherwise known as FEMA camp facilities on military installations. This is an incredibly disturbing piece of legislation considering that the powers that be have already set in motion an agenda to setup a nationwide marital law apparatus through U.S. Northern Command and the Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, the fusion centers, militarized police, surveillance cameras and a domestic military command is not enough. Even though we know that detention facilities are already in place, they now want to legalize the construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever popular excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency. With the phony debt based economy getting worse and worse by the day, the possibility of civil unrest is becoming a greater threat to the establishment. One need only look at Iceland, Greece and other nations for what might happen in the United States next. With this in mind, it appears as if these so called national emergency centers will be used in a national emergency but only if the national emergency requires large groups of people to be rounded up and detained. If that isn’t the case, than why have these national emergency facilities built in military installations?

HR:1388 – The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act – passed into law 04/21/2009

http://www.redstate.com/hogan/2009/03/25/promoting-statism-in-the-name-of-service/

[ H.R. 1388 ] is one of the most disturbing pieces of legislation I have seen in a long time. The “Serve America Act” is cloaked in feel-good rhetoric and supposedly noble goals, but it is nothing more than another Washington power-grab – this time targeted at non-profits and education – and ultimately at indoctrinating a whole new generation of Obamanistas into forsaking individual liberty and free will for the Statist worldview.

The bill is far too onerous to detail here – and given Republican support for it, it would seem somewhat futile. But, the legislation is far too destructive not to spend some time on, and one of the few remaining patriots in Washington – Jim DeMint (R-SC) – gave an excellent speech yesterday explaining the bill’s misguided approach and his opposition.

And here are just a few of the lowlights in the legislation:

1. The bill will substantially increase the size and reach of an existing federal government program;
2. The bill will burden taxpayers with more than 5 billion tax dollars at a time when we should be cutting back, not spending more;
3. The bill will steer funding and volunteers for public service away from churches, individuals, neighbors, and others who would like to lend a helping hand and toward organizations selected by bureaucrats;
4. The bill is full of vague language and has insufficient safeguards to prevent left-wing special interest groups from using tax dollars to advance their agenda in the name of “community service;”
5. The bill risks politicizing charity and community service by funneling funds and volunteers toward the preferred organizations picked by ideologues;
6. The first 25% of this bill is really education legislation, and should be in an education bill at the state level; and
7. The bill will compound the disincentives created by new limits on federal tax deductions for charitable giving, thereby decreasing the role of families, churches and other local organizations in their communities.

When you look at the details – one realizes that it’s far worse than even that… more along the lines of full-scale indoctrination camps toward Statism. The legislation will, in many circumstances, force our children to participate in charitable activity as part of school – and that activity may well be chosen by or approved by a bureaucrat. The bill causes a federally chartered, Washington-based institution to, essentially, pick priorities and winners and losers in the charitable universe – undoubtedly putting many charities at a significant disadvantage…

None of this even considers the lack of Constitutional basis for such a massive federal intervention into local charities and volunteerism… but when does that ever stop anyone in Washington? And when coupled with the soon-to-be-reduced lower tax deductions for charities, the Obama-Democrat machine is massively shifting the focus of charity from the individual to the State.

H.R. 45 – Blair Holt Firearms Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009

http://www.dailypaul.com/node/89772

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm – any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver’s License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
.Each update – change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25
– Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

.There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

If you think this is a joke – go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this..

Special Report: Next Step: Single Payer Retirement Plans?

Posted on August 27, 2009. Filed under: Enemies of The State, General Info, Soapbox | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

NEXT STOP- SINGLE PAYER RETIREMENT PLAN ?:

Inch by inch, program by program, citizen by citizen the government is hell bent on controlling every aspect of our life. The next example was given sunlight by CNS News: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/53157

The Government Accountability Office – the investigative arm of Congress – has laid some of the groundwork for pension reform by publishing a study of the “retirement risks” posed by private pension plans in the United States. “Many experts agree reforms are needed to make the U.S. private pension system more effective in protecting workers from risks to accumulating and preserving adequate savings for retirement,” says the GAO report. “If no action is taken, a considerable number of Americans face the prospect of a reduced standard of living in retirement.” The July 2009 report is addressed to Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee. Miller is an advocate of “retirement security.” As part of its study, the GAO examined the pension systems of the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and found that private pensions in those countries “represent alternative approaches” that could “yield useful lessons for the U.S. experience.” The GAO also examined four “key” domestic proposals to reform the U.S. private pension system – including a government-sponsored, mandatory system called the Guaranteed Retirement Accounts (GRA) plan. Under this plan, the federal government (Social Security Administration) would establish and administer a system of retirement savings accounts – guaranteeing a specified rate of return on those accounts. Currently, pension plans offered by private employers in the United States are voluntary and include tax incentives to encourage participation.

READ THE REPORT YOURSELF:  Released August 24, 2009  http://www.gao.gov/docsearch/pastweek.html
Private Pensions: Alternative Approaches Could Address Retirement Risks Faced by Workers but Pose Trade-offs GAO-09-642, July 24, 2009
Commentary for the report was given by Dept of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Dept of Treausury Secretary Timothy Geitner. The report was done for the Education and Labor Dept headed by Democratic Congressman George Miller of California. It is estimated Congressman Miller votes with his party 98% of the time. Miller is a far-left Democrat according to GovTrack’s own analysis of bill sponsorship.  Key legislation he has sponsored is Employee Free Choice Act (card check), and co-sponsored HR 3200 as well as HR 2483 to permanently increase the conforming loan limits for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation and the Federal National Mortgage Association and the FHA maximum mortgage amount limitations. For other legislation he sponsored or co-sponsored, or to see how he voted on other issues: http://www.opencongress.org/people/bills/400278_George_Miller#sponsored
According to the report:
This report addresses the following questions: (1) What are key risks faced by U.S. workers in accumulating and preserving pension benefits? (2) What approaches are used in other countries that could address these risks and what trade-offs do they present? (3) What approaches do key proposals for alternative plan designs in the U.S. suggest to mitigate risks faced by workers and what trade-offs do they entail? To complete this work, we reviewed research on defined benefit and defined contribution plans, and interviewed pension consulting firms, industry experts, academics, and other relevant organizations in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, we used a microsimulation model to assess the impact of certain strategies to increase pension coverage on accumulated benefits. The Department of Labor and Department of Treasury provided technical comments on this report.

The report also states:

Key legal and administrative changes required by this plan include establishing and administering a system of retirement accounts by the federal government, information sharing by state and local governments, and reducing the current preferential tax treatment of DC plans, such as 401(k) plans (see app. III). Two additional proposals focus specifically on addressing risks associated with retirees’ drawdown of lump-sum benefits by presenting options for increasing the use of annuities as a way to pay out benefits accumulated in DC plans.

Table 11 on page 44 of the 77 page document, illustrates the GRA Plan’s Approaches to Coverage, Contributions, Investments and the Drawdown of Beneifits in Retirement.  For instance, under the Worker column it shows that that those who are not covered by an equal or better employered sponsored plan MUST participate. Workers who are self employed, indepedent contractors, or not covered by their employers also MUST enroll.

Table 15 on page 69 of the report, illustrates a Summary of Administrative Legal Changes Associated with Key Domestic Proposals. It details the role the Federal Government will play in all this. Notice in Universal 401(k) Plan the Feds establish a federally chartered clearinghouse structure that sets up and manages workers accounts as well as facilitates annuity purchases. Under the Guaranteed Retirement Accounts Plan, the Federal Government, under the Social Security Administration, establishes and administers a system of retirement savings accounts and manages and invests plan assets for you with a guaranteed return.

Will this be handled like everything else the government touches? It starts out sounding benevolent, then turns into a vehicle for corruption, abuse, fraud, mismanagement and theft upon the American people. Remember Social Security? That was a guarantee against poverty among the elderly too, when it was introduced in 1935. According to encyclopedia.com:

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt supported temporary emergency relief with enthusiasm but at first opposed a permanent federal role. By late 1934, however, the deepening depression led the president to appoint a Committee on Economic Security to draft a bill. Its staff headed by Edwin Witte and his colleagues from Wisconsin’s state government and the University of Wisconsin, the committee was dominated by proponents of social insurance. Their vision, derived from private life‐insurance plans, called for government funds to replace wages lost through illness, injury, unemployment, or retirement. Its advocates sought to serve the prosperous as well as the poor, thereby avoiding the stigma of “poor relief,” and to prevent, not simply alleviate, poverty. The committee adapted social insurance principles in designing three programs—unemployment compensation, old‐age pensions, and medical insurance, the last of which died owing to opposition from the organized medical profession.
We all know how well that worked out. Ah, but this will entail private accounts, will it not? Well, that is how the original idea is starting out. As anyone who has been a citizen of this country for any length of time can plainly see, our government will find a way to morph that into anything they want at any time of their choosing.

Another Story of Government Insulting Concerned Americans from American Liberty Alliance

http://americanlibertyalliance.com/blog/2009-08-27/taxpayer-dollars-used-to-call-american-patriots-tea-baggers/ We at the American Liberty Alliance, an organization that is deeply involved in the Tea Party Movement, find this incredibly offensive. Our group demands that the Rules Committee immediately apologize and ensure the person responsible for sending this message is reprimanded for insulting the hundreds of thousands of American Patriots who consider themselves “Tea Partiers.” Anyone wishing to contact the Rules Committee can call the number they provide in their email. Call (916) 319-2800 and tell them how you feel!

This would suggest that someone working on taxpayer time, in a taxpayer funded office, using taxpayer funded email servers to contact taxpayer employees, deliberately chose to use the phrase “tea baggers” instead of “Tea Partiers.” (“tea baggers” is an explicit sexual term whose definition can be found at wikipedia.com)

FCC Diversity Chief Asked Liberals to Copy FDR, Take on Limbaugh, Murdoch, Supreme Court
http://cnsnews.com/news/article/53136
Federal Communications Commission Chief Diversity Officer Mark Lloyd called on fellow liberals to follow the model of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and challenge conservative media moguls and station owners, particularly figures such as Rush Limbaugh, Rupert Murdoch, and “a pro-big business Supreme Court aligned” with them. Lloyd made the call in a 2007 article for the liberal Center for American Progress while he was a senior fellow there.  Entitled “Media Maneuvers: Why the Rush to Waive Cross-Ownership Bans,” the article ostensibly talks about the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to allow Chicago real estate mogul Sam Zell to purchase the then-failing Chicago Tribune Co., owner of the Chicago Tribune newspaper.  Lloyd, however, uses the Zell case, in which Zell ultimately prevailed, to make a broader argument that liberals should look to the tactics employed by FDR to combat his conservative critics in the media, saying that liberals must challenge outspoken conservatives who own media outlets. “Progressives should take a page from FDR’s media diversity playbook,” Lloyd wrote. “[A]t the end of a second FDR administration [in 1940] when the New Dealers were still battling a conservative print media and a conservative Supreme Court to fix the great debacle of American capitalism – the Great Depression. “FDR’s fireside chats and his ready access to radio allowed him to speak directly to Americans and continue to push a progressive agenda,” said Lloyd. “But FDR was becoming increasingly concerned about the purchase of radio operations by the newspaper publishers.”

President Obama said: “If you want to know what my views are, look who I surround myself with”

Ok, that’s fair… so let’s look:

Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein

Sunstein was named head of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Obama administration if confirmed – in other words, he will be the new Regulatory Czar.

The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), within the Office of Management and Budget, was created by Congress with the enactment of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980 (PRA). Under this and other authorities, OIRA develops and oversees several critical functions, including:
  • The implementation of government-wide policies and standards with respect to Federal regulations and guidance documents;
  • The quality, utility, and analytic rigor of information used to support public policy;
  • Dissemination of and access to government information;
  • Privacy and confidentiality;
  • Electronic records; and
  • Federal statistics.
OIRA reviews significant proposed and final rules as well as information collection requests prior to publication in the Federal Register. Coordinated review of agency rulemaking is necessary to ensure that regulatory actions do not conflict with the policies or actions taken or planned by another agency, are consistent with applicable law, the President’s priorities, and the principles set forth in Executive Order 12866. The office is headed by a Presidentially appointed and Senate-confirmed Administrator.

noisyroom.com:

Sunstein is a proponent of the ‘nudge’ philosophy – Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness:

By a nudge we mean anything that influences our choices. A school cafeteria might try to nudge kids toward good diets by putting the healthiest foods at front. We think that it’s time for institutions, including government, to become much more user-friendly by enlisting the science of choice to make life easier for people and by gentling nudging them in directions that will make their lives better.

In other words, you institute change by constantly tweaking the law, etc. until it becomes what you want it to be. Fascist baby steps if you will. From Wikipedia:

Sunstein (along with his coauthor Richard Thaler) has elaborated the theory of libertarian paternalism. In arguing for this theory, he counsels thinkers/academics/politicians to embrace the findings of behavioral economics as applied to law, maintaining freedom of choice while also steering people’s decisions in directions that will make their lives go better. With Thaler, he coined the term “choice architect.”

He also has views on a ‘New Deal’ for speech and he seeks to tweak the Constitution so to speak (actually, more like rewriting it) in this area as well as others…

1st Amendment

In his book Democracy and the Problem of Free Speech Sunstein says there is a need to reformulate First Amendment law. He thinks that the current formulation, based on Justice Holmes’ conception of free speech as a marketplace “disserves the aspirations of those who wrote America’s founding document.” The purpose of this reformulation would be to “reinvigorate processes of democratic deliberation, by ensuring greater attention to public issues and greater diversity of views.” He is concerned by the present “situation in which like-minded people speak or listen mostly to one another,” and thinks that in “light of astonishing economic and technological changes, we must doubt whether, as interpreted, the constitutional guarantee of free speech is adequately serving democratic goals.” He proposes a “New Deal for speech [that] would draw on Justice Brandeis’ insistence on the role of free speech in promoting political deliberation and citizenship.”

newsrealblog.com:

Here are some Sunstein gems:

  • “Much of the time, the United States seems to have embraced a confused and pernicious form of individualism. This approach endorses rights of private property and freedom of contract, and respects political liberty, but claims to distrust ‘government intervention’ and insists that people must fend for themselves. This form of so-called individualism is incoherent, a tangle of confusions.”
    – Cass R. Sunstein, The Second Bill of Rights: FDR’s Unfinished Revolution and Why We Need it More Than Ever, Basic Books, New York, 2004, p. 3
  • “A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government.”
–Cass Sunstein, arguing for a Fairness Doctrine for the Internet in his book, Republic.com 2.0, p.137
  • “In what sense is the money in our pockets and bank accounts fully ‘ours’? Did we earn it by our own autonomous efforts? Could we have inherited it without the assistance of probate courts? Do we save it without the support of bank regulators? Could we spend it if there were no public officials to coordinate the efforts and pool the resources of the community in which we live?… Without taxes there would be no liberty. Without taxes there would be no property. Without taxes, few of us would have any assets worth defending. [It is] a dim fiction that some people enjoy and exercise their rights without placing any burden whatsoever on the public fisc. … There is no liberty without dependency. That is why we should celebrate tax day …”
    – Cass R. Sunstein, “Why We Should Celebrate Paying Taxes,” The Chicago Tribune, April 14, 1999
Leftist False Flag Operation in Colorado? from Canada Free Press

Colorado Citizens’ Coalition, a 527 pressure group, may have been behind an attack on a Democratic Party office in Denver calculated to depict opponents of ObamaCare as violent. Maurice Schwenkler, reportedly an anarchist who goes by the name Ariel Attack and whose sex is a subject of debate, was arrested for vandalizing the Denver office. One available photograph shows a shattered window that bears two signs on the inside reading “Want Health Care Reform? Come Inside” and “Today 100 Coloradans will lose their health insurance.” The damage may cost $10,000 to repair. Colorado Democratic Party chairwoman Pat Waak blamed opponents of President Obama’s healthcare nationalization scheme for the vandalism. “Clearly there’s been an effort on the other side to stir up hate,” she said. “I think this is the consequence of it.” … {As it turns out, that was not the case.] Waak has not yet apologized.  Video: http://tinyurl.com/n3dw8s

New “Lingo” in the news:

What’s black bloc activity

A black bloc is a group of protesters dressed in black, who often cooperate in small, autonomous affinity groups to resist police. There may be several black blocs within a particular protest, with different aims and tactics. Black blocs tend to be anarchist-themed, and may include members of union flying squads, anarchists, situationists, pagans, communists and other anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and anti-fascist groups. What defines a black bloc is not ideology but action in self-defense of the larger group of protesters. They are named for the typical black garb they wear for uniformity. Many also wear masks and scarves over their faces, to avoid identification, to protect their faces against tear gas and pepper spray, and for symbolic purposes. Typical actions of a black bloc are distracting police, misleading police about protester motions, ‘unarresting’ people already arrested by police, administering first aid to persons affected by tear gas in areas where protestors are barred from entering, building barricades, attacking/disarming police, and unmasking police who pose as black blockers (easily identified as they attack protestors). Some black blockers also engage in vandalism and rioting. Although black blocking is usually connected with some form of direct action, black blocs also participate in wholly symbolic action, as well as action that falls entirely within traditional definitions of nonviolence. Property destruction carried out by black blocs tends to have symbolic significance: favorite targets include banks, institutional buildings, outlets for multinational corporations, pornography and sex shops, gasoline stations, and videosurveillance cameras. Groups such as the WOMBLES and Wild Greens advocate participating in black bloc activity, and have similar mandates. Groups that have engaged in similar forms of action include Radical Anti-Capitalist Blocs, Anti-Racist Action, and Anti-Fascist Action

ACLU: Spying for America’s Enemies by Michelle Malkin
http://cnsnews.com/ne…

For once, the American Civil Liberties Union has nothing bad to say about the latest case of secret domestic surveillance — because it is the ACLU that committed the spying. Last week, The Washington Post reported on a new Justice Department inquiry into photographs of undercover CIA officials and other intelligence personnel taken by ACLU-sponsored researchers assisting the defense team of Guantanamo Bay detainees. According to the report, the pictures of covert American CIA officers — “in some cases surreptitiously taken outside their homes” — were shown to jihadi suspects tied to the 9/11 attacks in order to identify the interrogators. The ACLU undertook the so-called “John Adams Project” with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers — last seen crusading for convicted jihadi assistant Lynne Stewart. She’s the far-left lawyer who helped sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, convicted 1993 World Trade Center bombing and N.Y. landmark bombing plot mastermind, smuggle coded messages of Islamic violence to outside followers in violation of an explicit pledge to abide by her client’s court-ordered isolation. The ACLU’s team used lists and data from “human rights groups,” European researchers and news organizations that were involved in “(t)racking international CIA-chartered flights” and monitoring hotel phone records. Working from a witch-hunt list of 45 CIA employees, the ACLU team tailed and photographed agency employees or obtained other photos from public records. And then they showed the images to suspected al-Qaida operatives implicated in murdering 3,000 innocent men, women and children on American soil. Where is the concern for the safety of these American officers and their families? Where’s the outrage from all the indignant supporters of former CIA agent Valerie Plame, whose name was leaked by Bush State Department official Richard Armitage to the late Robert Novak? Lefties swung their nooses for years over the disclosure, citing federal laws prohibiting the sharing of classified information and proscribing anyone from unauthorized exposure of undercover intelligence agents.

The Storm Upon Us from Canada Free Press
http://canadafreepres…

“Find out just what the people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both.” — Frederick Douglass, civil rights activist, (circa 1818-1895) One of three possible scenarios is currently being played out in the United States.

The first option, is simply that the Obama Administration is the most corrupt, dishonest, and inept Administration that America has ever been burdened with. That is the “best case” scenario. Unfortunately, this is the option that I think least likely. The second option, is that the Obama Administration despises individual freedom, capitalism, free-enterprise, and is hell-bent on transforming the United States into a fascist/communist collective—a regime that will be run by a venal, ruthless, power-hungry elite. That actually sounds more plausible to me. The third option is, that the Obama Administration is part of a global restructuring process (New World Order), in which the world will be turned into a fascist/communist collective—run by a venal, ruthless, power-hungry elite. My guess is—take your pick between options two and three. If you’re surprised by my analysis, then you haven’t been paying attention to what has happened, and is happening, to the United States. Let me roll out some facts and figures for you. The SEIU (Service Employees International Union) is run by Andy Stern, a militant Far-Left thug, and Anna Burger, another Far-Left radical. The SEIU has increased its size and power through, arm-twisting intimidation tactics, and other nefarious means. Two years ago Obama said before an SEIU rally, “I’ve spent my entire adult life working with SEIU.” That is not good news. Once you’ve looked into the corruption, ruthlessness, and Far-Left agenda of the SEIU leadership, you will know that it is not good news at all. Obama has appointed two stalwart friends of SEIU to high level positions: Kathleen Selibus (D-Kansas) as head of the Department of Health and Human Services, and Hilda Solis to head the Department of Labor. The SEIU currently has over 2 million members. most of them are essentially unwilling inductees, but many are “true believers.” Let’s discuss ACORN. Wade Rathke, who “cut his teeth” in the Far-Left radical group SDS in the 1960s, founded ACORN, and also SEIU Local 100. These and numerous other Far-Left groups under the Rathke “umbrella” are funded by our taxpayer dollars. According to the “Sweetness and Ligh” website: “ACORN claims more than 400,000 dues-paying member families, and more than 1,200 chapters in 110 U.S. cities.” And lets not forget the hundreds of “advocacy groups” connected with Acorn: groups such as the WFP (Working Families Party),—which, according to an Associated Press report, was created in 1998 to help push the Democratic Party toward the left.” Many of our taxpayer dollars are funneled to various Far-Left organizations which, after the “bosses” get their cut, distribute the money among hundreds, possibly thousands, of groups which advocate the destruction of the United States as a free republic, and the installation of a welfare collective. That’s not hyperbole folks. It’s a con game that is going on, and has been going on for years—with the assistance of radical leftist foundations like Arca, and the Tides Foundation. Some deal, huh? Collect the money earned by some bourgeois chump, and then spend your time trying to destroy the system that enabled the chump to make the money in the first place. Sweet! My point here is that there are already a number of available thugs in place, should the Obama Administration need them. And we shouldn’t forget AmeriCorp, and the other paramilitary groups getting ready to “muscle up.” Although I’ve been talking exclusively about the Far-Left influence, I don’t want to be remiss, and forget to mention that greed, corruption, and duplicity are non-partisan vices. The right-wing has its share of snakes in the grass as well.

In Honor of 09/11, Please Fly the Flag

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this eighth anniversary of one of our country’s worst tragedies. We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn’t take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

Rangel lowballed net worth by half by Susan Ferrechio at Washington Examiner
http://www.washington…
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., has amended his 2007 financial disclosure forms, adding hundreds of thousands of dollars in previously undisclosed assets. Rangel filed an amended financial disclosure statement earlier this month to include $250,000 in a Congressional Federal Credit Union, “land in southern New Jersey and stock in PepsiCo and fast food conglomerate Yum! Brands,” CQ reports. The amended report doubles Rangel’s net worth reported in the original form filed in 2008.Rangel holds the gavel of the House tax writing panel. He is under investigation by the House ethics committee for failing to pay back taxes and suspicion of engaging in a pay-for-play scheme involving donations to a school named after him. Ethics is also probing a trip Rangel took to the Caribbean with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Gietner: Auditing the Fed A Line We Just Don’t Want To Cross from James Corbett
http://www.prisonplan…

In an interview released today by Digg and the Wall Street Journal, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was pressured about the growing popular movement to Audit the Fed spearheaded by Texas Congressman Ron Paul. A visibly uncomfortable Geithner attempts to dismiss the question by stating “I’m sure people understand that you want to keep politics out of monetary policy.” When Geithner is again pressed on the issue, he makes the stunning assertion that conducting an audit of the Federal Reserve—something never before done in its 96 year history—is a “line that we don’t want to cross,” proclaiming that such a move would be “problematic for the country.” Watch the interview http://online.wsj.com…

Obamaturf Charged Townhalls Now Scheduled – You Can Come But You Can Not Speak!

http://www.freedomwor…

If you have been trying to find an event to go speak directly with your representative about health care reform, cap and trade, or any other issue, now is the time to call their offices and ask when and where they will be.

Many elected officials have been dodging calls and constituents all month, but according to FoxNews.com, health care supporters have now scheduled between 500-1000 town hall events from tomorrow through September 8th. And apparently:

Health Care for American Now, an umbrella organization of groups supporting Obama’s plan, is coordinating its efforts with Organizing for America, the Obama campaign organization now melded into the national Democratic Party, which reputedly has an e-mail list of up to 13 million names. Together, they plan 1,000 events before the congressional recess ends September 8. The title for the blitz: “Health insurance reform now, let’s get it done.” …The events will mostly be large rallies, speeches and press conferences where the public will be invited to cheer or listen — though not express the kind of opposition or ask the kinds of questions that have contributed to increased opposition to health care reform in many polls.

Stimulus Checks “mistakingly” sent to 1700 Inmates

http://www.foxnews.co…

The inspector general’s office for the Social Security Administration is now looking into the problem as part of its broader audit on stimulus spending. “It is unacceptable for convicts to be getting stimulus funds. It speaks to the lack of oversight and accountability to have such nonsense coming out of Washington. Where is the accountability?” House Minority Whip Eric Cantor said in a written statement. Though it might strike taxpayers as unusual, some inmates were legally eligible for the stimulus checks. Under the law, the $250 checks were supposed to be sent to those legally receiving benefits under the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Railroad Retirement Board between November 2008 and January 2009.

Get To Know : The Shadow Party

http://www.discoverth…

The “Shadow Party” is a term originally devised by journalists to describe 527 political committees promoting Democratic Party agendas. It is here used more specifically to refer to the network of non-profit activist groups organized by George Soros and others to mobilize resources – money, get-out-the-vote drives, campaign advertising and policy iniatives – to elect Democratic candidates and guide the Democratic Party towards the left. The Internet fund-raising operation MoveOn.org is a key component. The Shadow Party in this sense was conceived and organized principally by Soros, Hillary Clinton and Harold Ickes. Its efforts are amplified by, and coordinated with, key government unions and the activist groups associated with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). The key organizers of these groups are veterans of the Sixties left. A political consultancy called the Thunder Road Group (TRG), located on the 7th Floor of the historic Motion Picture Association of America headquarters at 888 Sixteenth Street NW in Washington, DC, serves as the unofficial headquarters of the Shadow Party. Three other Shadow Party groups also lease space in the same building, including America Coming Together (ACT), America Votes, and the Partnership for America’s Families. The clustering of these groups in a building owned by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is significant. The MPAA has long enjoyed a close relationship with the Democratic Party; many high-ranking Democrats have transitioned comfortably from government jobs into glamorous posts in the MPAA’s upper management. Other major funders of the Shadow Party include the Tides Foundation and the Open Society Institute.

FCC HEAD GENACHOWSKI Shares Beliefs With Czar Lloyd

Fcc Chairman Julius Genachowski shares diversity belief held by FCC Czar Mark Llyod.

According to a 01/14 article in the New York Times at the time of his nomination, he and Obama both attended Columbia, then became friendly while both were attending Harvard. Chair Genachowski also served in the presidential campaign as one of Obama’s telecommunications and technology advisor. He advocated an open internet in the debate over so-called net neutrality and media ownership rules that promoted a diversity of voices on the airwaves. His biography on the FCC site states his background in public service inclusive of Chief Counsel to FCC Chair Hundt as well as Special Counsel to FCC General Counsel Kennard. Prior he was a law clerk at the Supreme Court for Justics Souuter and Brennan and at the Court of Appeals for DC Circuit Chief Judge Mikva. Genachowski also worked in Congress for US Rep (now Senator) Chuck Schumer (D-NY). He has also been active at “the intersection of social responisbility and the marketplace” (uggghhh) as part of the founding group of New Resource Bank- which specializes in serving the needs of green entrepreneurs and sustainable businesses. Also, he served on the Advisory Board of Environmental Entrepreneurs.

This is a follow up to the story on SoldierForLiberty on 08/15/2009 excerpted below:

(CNSNews.com) – Mark Lloyd, newly appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission, has called for making private broadcasting companies pay licensing fees equal to their total operating costs to allow public broadcasting outlets to spend the same on their operations as the private companies do. “Local public broadcasters and regional and national communications operations should be required to encourage and broadcast diverse views and programs,” wrote Lloyd. “These programs should include coverage of all local, state and federal government meetings, as well as daily news and public issues programming.  (see link above for complete story). How about corruption reform first? by American Thinker
http://www.americanth…

Before we implement any sweeping changes of the American political system, how about cleaning up corruption first? In November of 2007, while campaigning for president, John Edwards, the former North Carolina Senator, said: “Washington is awash with corrupt money, with lobbyists who pass it out and with politicians who ask for it,” adding, “This election is the great moral test of our generation.” About a year later he was being investigated for use of PAC money for personal use, his once-prominent political career was buried and the turmoil of his marriage was playing out in public… Hardly a week goes by that we don’t read about politicians getting their grubby hands into another pile of pilfered pelf…. The list goes on and on, including many who were caught with their hands in the till, but will probably never do time. New York Congressman Charlie Rangel has spent close to a million dollars on attorneys as he tries to fend off charges that he failed to pay taxes on 4 rent stabilized luxury apartments in Harlem and a villa in the Dominican Republic. The Chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee is a fierce proponent of raising taxes on working people, but, as is often the case with these mountebanks, is less ardent about paying his own taxes. With all these greedy, self-absorbed reprobates making decisions about our future, is it any wonder that people are terrified of handing health care reform to them?

AUTO CZAR PROMOTED TO MANUFACTURING CZAR from Heritage Foundation
http://blog.heritage….
If you like what’s happened to the auto industry, you’ll love this. Bloomberg is reporting today that Ron Bloom — the head of the Obama Administration’s automobile task force — will soon get an expanded portfolio, with responsiblity for crafting Administration policies for all manufacturing industries. Yet another Obama Administration czar? Don’t expect the White House to use the dreaded “C” word, but that seems to be the plan.

A Cliff Notes View of Cloward and Piven from Wikipedia (The Backstory- a small history lesson)

http://en.wikipedia.o…

The Cloward-Piven strategy refers to a political strategy outlined by Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, then both sociologists and political activists at the Columbia University School of Social Work, in a 1966 article in The Nation. The two argued that many Americans who were eligible for welfare were not receiving benefits, and that a welfare enrollment drive would create a political crisis that would force U.S. politicians, particularly the Democratic Party, to enact legislation “establishing a guaranteed national income.”

The Strategy
Cloward and Piven’s article is focused on forcing the Democratic Party, which in 1966 controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress, to take federal action to help the poor. They argued that full enrollment of those eligible for wellfare “would produce bureaucratic disruption in welfare agencies and fiscal disruption in local and state governments” that would “deepen existing divisions among elements in the big-city Democratic coalition: the remaining white middle class, the white working-class ethnic groups and the growing minority poor. To avoid a further weakening of that historic coalition, a national Democratic administration would be constrained to advance a federal solution to poverty that would override local welfare failures, local class and racial conflicts and local revenue dilemmas.” They wrote “the ultimate objective of this strategy (is) to wipe out poverty by establishing a guaranteed annual income… (via)the outright redistribution of income.”

Focus on Democrats
The authors pinned their hopes on creating disruption within the Democratic Party. “Conservative Republicans are always ready to declaim the evils of public welfare, and they would probably be the first to raise a hue and cry. But deeper and politically more telling conflicts would take place within the Democratic coalition,” they wrote. “Whites – both working class ethnic groups and many in the middle class – would be aroused against the ghetto poor, while liberal groups, which until recently have been comforted by the notion that the poor are few… would probably support the movement. Group conflict, spelling political crisis for the local party apparatus, would thus become acute as welfare rolls mounted and the strains on local budgets became more severe.” Michael Reisch and Janice Andrews wrote that Cloward and Piven “proposed to create a crisis in the current welfare system — by exploiting the gap between welfare law and practice — that would ultimately bring about its collapse and replace it with a system of guaranteed annual income. They hoped to accomplish this end by informing the poor of their rights to welfare assistance, encouraging them to apply for benefits and, in effect, overloading an already overburdened bureaucracy.”

Republicans Have Offered Three Alternative Health Care Reform Bills by CNS News

http://cnsnews.com/ne…

President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress — while pushing their own health care overhauls — have criticized Republicans as offering only opposition and no ideas for reform, but the GOP, despite the lack of media attention, has introduced three health care bills. The three Republican bills total almost 400 pages and have been on the table since May and June.

In May, Republicans in the House and the Senate formed a bicameral coalition to produce the130-page “Patients Choice Act of 2009.”

In June, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) introduced the “Health Care Freedom Plan,” a 41-page proposal.

And in July, the Republican Study Committee, under the leadership of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), unveiled the “Empowering Patients First Act,” a 130-page plan.

Some of the provisions included in one or more of the bills include: investing in preventive medicine, an overhaul of Medicaid, reduction of abuse and fraud in the Medicare program, supplemental health insurance for low-income families, tax credits for health insurance, and a ban on federal funds being used for abortions. However, supporters of the Democratic plans have accused Republicans of trying to derail attempts at reforming health care without having a plan of their own.
“There is no Republican health care plan out there,” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) told Talk Radio News Service on July 31 about what he called the Republican-backed “misinformation campaign” that is slowing health care reform. “As a practicing physician, I have seen first-hand how giving government more control over health care has failed to make health care more affordable or accessible,” Coburn said. “The ‘Patients Choice Act’ will provide every American with access to affordable health care without a tax increase, more debt or waiting lines.” In June, DeMint, chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, introduced the “Health Care Freedom Plan,” which was analyzed by the Heritage Foundation. The conservative policy think tank said DeMint’s bill could reduce the number of uninsured by 22.4 million people in five years. It also provides grants to help people with pre-existing conditions gain access to affordable insurance, and allows Americans to purchase health savings accounts to pay for insurance. “The time has come for Americans to regain control of their health care choices, and the ‘Health Care Freedom Act’ empowers every American with the freedom to choose and own a plan that is best for them,” DeMint said. DeMint’s bill also has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee. In July, Price, who is also a practicing physician, introduced the “Empowering Patients First Act.” “Today, we present a solution for health care reform that offers more patient-centered choices and care of the highest quality,” Price said. “The ‘Empowering Patients First Act’ is a budget neutral proposal based on the fundamental principle that personal medical decisions should be made by patients in consultation with the doctors rather than unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington.” Price’s bill also emphasizes preventive health care, tax credits, reduction of fraud and abuse in existing federal health care programs, and health care programs tailored to meet the needs of Native Americans and U.S. military veterans.

Obama is Reminding Me of Bill Clinton

Three Clinton Quotes From the Past Are Starting To Sound Like the Democrat Montra:

” the purpose of government is to reign in the rights of the people”
— Bill Clinton during an interview on MTV in 1993

“You know the one thing that’s wrong with this country? Everyone gets a chance to have their fair say.”
– Bill Clinton, May 29, 1993, The White House

“We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans . . . .”
— William J. Clinton, USA Today, March 11, 1993

Camps for Dissidents Readied from Dprogram.net
http://dprogram.net/2…

There exists an explosive hot-button issue that U.S. government officials don’t want revealed to the American public; namely, that internment camps have been established—and are at the ready to detain citizens if mass insurrections occur. Under FEMA’s National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09), potential trigger events could be economic collapse, widespread bank closures, massive social unrest, or a flu pandemic. This final item led Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) to declare on August 11 that the government “might use a pandemic disease or national disaster as an excuse to declare martial law.” Renowned researcher Michel Chossudovsky addressed the mechanics of this subject in a March 19 article entitled, Preparing for Civil Unrest in America: Legislation to Establish Internment Camps on U.S. Military Bases:“How will the U.S. government face an impending social catastrophe? The chosen avenue, inherited from the outgoing Bush administration, is the reinforcement of the Homeland Security apparatus and the militarization of civilian state institutions.” Are Army bases actually being converted into detainment camps? In his September 2008 newsletter, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) pulled no punches. “Even though we know that detention facilities are already in place, [the government] now wants to legalize the construction of FEMA camps on military installations using the ever-popular excuse that the facilities are for the purposes of a national emergency.” Conservative author and former presidential candidate, Pastor Chuck Baldwin, confirms this notion in an August 11 article, Why Are Internment Camps Being Built?: “I’ve had military personnel tell me that many of the U.S. military bases that have been recently ‘closed’ are also being prepared as large-scale ‘holding areas.” To counteract these charges, some claim the “renovated bases” will simply be used to hold illegal aliens. A recent news item appeared in the Idaho Observer’s June issue: “In January 2006, it was revealed that Halliburton subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR), had received a $385 million contract to build detention facilities ‘for an emergency influx of immigrants.’” But to argue that their sole focus is simply on illegal immigrants doesn’t hold water because the U.S. has had an open-border policy for at least three decades. On the other hand, more likely targets for detainment would be anti-New World Order proponents, Second Amendment advocates, dissidents, people who refuse to participate in forced inoculation programs, Christians, tax protesters and those deemed “extremists” and “enemies of the state” under a recent Department of Homeland Security report on “homegrown right-wing terrorists.” To show their seriousness in pushing this agenda, Bob Unruh revealed a disturbing development on August 7 for World Net Daily: “An ad campaign featured on a U.S. Army website seeking those who would be interested in being an ‘internment/resettlement’ specialist is raising alarms across the country.” What specifically would this position entail? The description is clear: “Internment/Resettlement (I/R) specialists in the Army are primarily responsible for day-to-day operations in a military confinement/correctional facility or detention/internment facility.” Legislation introduced by representative Alcee Hastings (D-Fl.) under HR 645 would have the DHS establishing at least half a dozen national emergency centers for large-scale imprisonment of American citizens on military installations. Further, HR 645 would create a Guantanamo-style setting after martial law is declared. At that point, posse comitatus laws would be rendered non-existent, replaced by military jurisdiction over all detainees. As a result, the incarcerated would find it much more difficult to enforce their Constitutional rights to a fair trial and/or legal representation. If skeptics doubt this scenario, they need to reexamine President Obama’s own words in a May 21 speech at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. At this locale, he spoke of “prolonged detention” for all those who posed a threat to U.S. security. Even members of the liberal media were disconcerted by the implications of this proposal, including MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who questioned the “expectation of future crimes” that seemed implicit in his plan. Maddow had further suspicions about the president’s advocacy of an Orwellian Big Brother-world via the use of “preventive incarceration” to keep certain people in prison indefinitely without charge.

Obama Has “No Teachable” Moments from Liberty’s Watchdogs
http://libertyswatchd…

If ever an opportunity presented itself for some great “teachable moments,” as the President likes to say, it is the health care debate, with all the alleged “myths” being spread about the dems’ Health Care Bill by us right wing fanatics who think that the Bill will lead to:
*a government takeover of a huge segment of the economy;
*rationed care, especially for the elderly and the very ill;
*skyrocketing costs; and
*a huge increase in the already gargantuan deficit.
But despite all his (choreographed) townhall appearances before (hand-picked adoring crowds of pro-Obama) American citizens, our President does not assail these supposed myths one by one, teaching us why people’s fears are misplaced. The President is a lawyer, and should know how to argue his case to the American people. But we hear no substantive discussion of the facts from him, just generalities and promises, and, as always, ridicule of those who dare to disagree. As trial lawyers know, if the facts are with you, you argue the facts. If they’re not, you argue the credibility of the opposition. The facts are not on Obama’s side, and so he and his allies have set about attacking the character of the opposition. So far we’ve been called:

*rude and uncivil;
*shills for insurance companies or radical groups;
*Nazis;
*racists who hate Obama because he’s black (even though undoubtedly a goodly percentage of protesters voted for him and/or supported him after his election);
*un-American;
*mindless enough to believe patently untrue “myths”;
*laughable;
*brainwashed by evil cable news channels; and, LAST BUT NOT LEAST,
*”wee-wee’d up.”
……. This is the real teachable lesson from this debate

Do You Believe In The Constitution? from Animal-Farm
http://animal-farm.us…

Do you believe the Constitution is the rule of law? Do you believe in the original intent of our founding fathers? Do you want to reform Congress? I’m not talking about reforming a Democratic Congress, but Congress. If your answer is yes, we have to work together to make this happen. The goal in its entirety is to make all three branches of government respect and abide by the rule of law, know as the Constitution of the United States of America. The most egregious of offenses against the Constitution is from Congress, so the focus will begin with the Legislative branch. It requires you to do some homework, because you have to know what you are talking about.

Please, if you love America, visit the website above and participate. So very little effort on your part can help preserve the country we love. Thanks!

National Association of Rural Land Owners
http://www.narlo.org/…
NARLO’s mission is to begin the long process of restoring, preserving and protecting Constitutional property rights and returning this country to a Constitutional Republic. Government has done a great job of dividing us up into little battle groups where we are essentially impotent at a national level. “Governments only get powerful because we let them. Political parties get powerful because we let them. Large corporations and legal or illegal organizations get powerful because we let them. Environmental groups get powerful because we let them. Unions get powerful because we let them. The larger these entities become, the more they will try to increase their power. But WE THE PEOPLE in the form of individuals and families have the ultimate power, if we will only exercise that power and if we act as one in the defense of our inalienable rights as granted to us by our creator and instituted into law by men under our Constitution and further by living up to our civic duties, obligations and individual responsibilities. But if we are divided, if we fight amongst ourselves, if we allow ourselves to be bought by the promises of government largess that always comes with a loss of freedom and if we ignore these time-tested constitutional principles, we are rendered impotent and the “powerful” will fill the gap, as they already have, because we let them.”

Factcheck.org: Tax money will pay for abortion in the health-care bill from hotair.com
http://hotair.com/arc…

We already knew this, thanks to Rep. Zoe Lofgren and Barack Obama himself, but it’s nice to get confirmation from those fine folks at Factcheck.org — an Annenberg project, no less. After Obama tried to paint it as a lie, the National Right to Life Committee insisted that ObamaCare would use taxpayer money to fund abortions. It turns out that they were right: The truth is that bills now before Congress don’t require federal money to be used for supporting abortion coverage. So the president is right to that limited extent. But it’s equally true that House and Senate legislation would allow a new “public” insurance plan to cover abortions, despite language added to the House bill that technically forbids using public funds to pay for them. Obama has said in the past that “reproductive services” would be covered by his public plan, so it’s likely that any new federal insurance plan would cover abortion unless Congress expressly prohibits that. Low- and moderate-income persons who would choose the “public plan” would qualify for federal subsidies to purchase it. Private plans that cover abortion also could be purchased with the help of federal subsidies. Therefore, we judge that the president goes too far when he calls the statements that government would be funding abortions “fabrications.” …At any rate, Obama was right — someone’s lying about abortion and ObamaCare. It turned out to be Obama himself.

Energy Workers Rally
San Juan County energy workers rally against legislation
http://www.daily-time…

(photo from Rebecca Craig/ The Daily Times)

Around 1,200 people listened to local leaders rail against cap-and-trade legislation at a rally at McGee Park on Friday afternoon. The American Clean Energy and Security Act, passed by the House and headed to the Senate, aims to limit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions scientists have linked to global warming. Speakers, including local political leaders, criticized the legislation, saying it would harm the oil and gas industry on which San Juan County’s economy relies. The legislation would increase oil and gas industry unemployment and energy costs, said Sandel, executive vice president of Aztec Well Servicing Co. Inc. Sandel told the crowd to say, “save our jobs.” Audience members, wearing yellow Energy Citizens T-shirts with pro-energy messages printed across the back, chanted the phrase throughout his speech. “We’re asking for our representatives to care about us,” Sandel said. “We ask that they care about our jobs. We ask that they listen.” Clean-burning natural gas will play a role in promoting alternative energy …Congress should be doing more to encourage local production rather than making it harder,” he said. The goal of the rallies is to let the Senate know that “we care about our jobs and affordable energy, and you need to get this bill right,” said petroleum institute spokeswoman Cathy Landry. “Energy Citizens is not against climate legislation,” Landry said. “Energy Citizens is for sound climate legislation.”

BIG Labor Administration Focused on 20 million New DNC Union Thugs

 http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/13975#When:21:21:38Z

While the nation is focused on stopping Obama’s Marxist health scare plan, Obama’s DHS is quietly moving forward on amnesty, free health care and voting rights for some 20 million illegal migrants. It’s not hard to figure out their motives… Labor unions  now own and operate the Democrat Party via their Democratic Socialists of America. 20 million illegal ailens already in the U.S. will generate more than 8 million new dues paying union members, who will be trained to vote Democrat in upcoming elections. Aside from being a huge payoff to the union bosses who funded the Socialists rise to power in America and placed Socialists in control of all three branches of the federal government in 2006 and 2008, it secures future elections for the Democrat Party by adding nearly 10 million New Leftist voters anxious to vote themselves gifts from our public trough. Today’s DNC will gladly show them the ropes…

60,000 AARP members have dropped their AARP membership in just the last few weeks, in a revolt against Obama’s plan to pay for socialized medicine for illegal immigrants by rationing health care to senor citizens, those who no longer “contribute,” but are instead a drain on the “public trough.” If you want the facts on ObamaCare, see the TV ad that ABC refuses to run, in which well respected neurosurgeon Dr. Cuffe tells it like it really is. Here is the ad sponsored by the Legue of American Voters: https://www.newsmaxstore.com/contribute/lav/?s=al&promo_code=85D0-1  ABC is the first national TV network to refuse to run the ad, even though they know that the ad states the facts as they truly exist.  Bozell Statement on MSNBC’s Slander of Town Hallers As ‘Racist’ Via Selective Video Editing

Media Research Center President and NewsBusters.org Publisher Brent Bozell today issued a public statement in which he demanded that MSNBC accept responsibility and apologize for concocting a racially charged “news” story that falsely accused a supposedly white health reform protester of carrying a gun out of hatred for a black President. NewsBusters.org’s Kyle Drennen initially reported on this on Tuesday, and yesterday provided an update: that the Second Amendment Foundation, as the name would suggest a gun-owners rights group, had condemned the liberal network for “using deceptively-edited video from a Phoenix, Arizona anti-tax rally on Monday to invent a racial stereotype in its on-going effort to demonize and marginalize American firearms owners as ‘racists.’” After Politico.com picked up Kyle’s initial NewsBusters.org item, an MSNBC spokesperson attempted to justify the slander: “Contessa was speaking generally and not about that specific person with the automatic weapon.” But Brewer did specifically cite an unidentified African-American man who attended a protest outside of a Monday speech by President Obama: “Yesterday, as President Obama addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phoenix, a man at a pro-health care reform rally just outside, wore a semiautomatic assault rifle on his shoulder and a pistol on his hip.”

Called the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research,  FCCCER is headed by past Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. The driving force behind the policies recommended by the FCCCER is Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel, Special Advisor on Helth Policyto the Director of  The Office White House Chief of Staff.  HR3200- will include oversight of Obama’s Death Panel. Here is a snippet from page 425:  of Management and Budget, and brother of Rahm Emanuel, Another example of LRRS at work is a recent statement by Greenpeace. On July 12 of this year Greenpeace admitted that they were mistaken about global warming. Take a look at this video: http://www.wikio.com/video/1550819 Gerd Leipold, the outgoing head of Greenpeace admits that the 2030 melting of polar ice will not happen. Actually, global temperatures are continuing to fall, but true to the LRRS principle, Al Gore continues to maintain that the catastrophe will come upon us in 3 years. Seems the environmentalist prophet hasn’t heard about the thickening of arctic ice and the gradual spread of the ice cap. Not to mention the explosion in the polar bear population. Noah Wyle needs to expand his reading material beyond the Huffington Post. Have you seen the light bulbs Al Gore forced upon us, ugly little twisty things that hum at you if you get one powerful enough to get decent light? Guess what is inside of them; mercury. Yep, that silvery liquid metal that’s poisonous to both you and the environment. When they break, mercury vapor is released into the atmosphere… Obama has created the deepest economic hole this country has ever been in and he is still wielding the shovel.

Guess who screened White House appointments!
Think tank developed by prez links socialist party to presidential picks
from World Net Daily

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=107418

Was a far-left think tank partnered with the community activist group ACORN and founded with input from President Obama instrumental in securing the appointment of controversial White House “environmental czar” Van Jones? A key member of the think tank reportedly was also a founder of a socialist party that, evidence indicates, included Obama among its members. In March, Jones was named the special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. His appointment drew criticism after a WND report exposing that Jones was as an admitted radical communist and black nationalist leader. The Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck hammered away at Jones’ communist ties. Months before Obama took office, however, Jones was recommended for the environmental pick in a report by business scholar Chuck Collins, an associate of philanthropist George Soros and a longtime leftist activist linked to some socialist causes. Collins is director of the Tax Program for Shared Prosperity at Demos, a far-left think tank that has partnered with ACORN and its ally, Project Vote, on several projects. Demos personalities were among ACORN’s top defenders when the organization was accused of rampant voter fraud in 2008. According to Demos’ own website, while Obama was a state senator in 1999, he served on the working group that founded Demos. Collins penned a piece that listed his top picks for the Obama administration, including Jones, at the radical Institute for Policy Studies. Through a socialist party, Obama may be more closely linked to Collins, who recommended Jones. Researcher Trevor Loudon of the New Zeal blog dug up official newspapers of the socialist-oriented New Party that list Collins as among the party’s founding builders in its fall 1994 edition. Collins is listed with approximately 100 other activists in an article entitled, “Who’s Building the New Party?” In a controversy never fully addressed by Obama, WND previously reported evidence showing Obama was a member of the New Party, which sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.

‘‘(E) An explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title.”

The text of the bill goes on to indicate that there are conditions that “the State” will consider when deciding to pay to allow someone to receive life saving care. The Liberal Reaction Response System (LRRS, pronounced “liars”) will continue to insist that there is no such panel simply because that exact title is nowhere to be found in any official governmental document.

SUPPORT “WHOLE FOODS” STORES IF YOU LOVE FREE SPEECH from Fox News
http://www.foxnews.co…

18,000 people on Facebook are calling for a boycott of the nationwide grocery store chain Whole Foods. It has to do with the debate over health care. Now, apparently, the CEO of Whole Foods who says we do need health care reform is not as liberal as some of his progressive clientele. John Mackey, who is the CEO of Whole Food who has been running the company, started the company in Austin Texas, about 30 years. In an op-ed in the WSJ, he said here are eight ideas as a successful CEO that I have, including tort reform, allowing insurers cross state lines, self-directed ideas. And yet he is vilified by some of the more liberal followers out there of the president’s plan. The individuals who signed up to boycott are waging war against Whole Foods. They are calling him a right-wing zealot.
Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, in 2007,said he had enough money to live comfortably, cut his salary down to $1 a year, and donated all of the proceeds from his stock option to charity. This does not sound like a guy who wants to stick it to the poor when it comes to health care. He had a different idea, and that was what was in the “Wall Street Journal.” He is a self-described libertarian. And I do not know if that was angered some people. Not only was he taking $1, but he pushed this through, Greta, a $100,000 need-based fund for Whole Foods workers. Heretofore this has been considered a relatively progressive company. Now he comes out and says the government-run plan is not the way to go. And he is absolutely being slaughtered on the left side of the blogosphere. He employs thousands of people. So I propose a reverse boycott. Everyone go to Whole Foods.

If you would like to support Mr. Mackey, or free speech, sign up on the support Whole Foods Facebook page at http://www.facebook.c…

Jim DeMint’s Health Care Plan – This should be what we are discussing! Write your reps today!

http://demint.senate….

All Americans should have a health insurance plan that they can afford, own, and keep – that government can never take over or take away. No American should be forced into a government-run system that limits their choices and rations their care.” – Sen. Jim DeMint

The Health Care Freedom Plan would allow every American access to health insurance and according to a study by the Heritage Foundation, would cover 22.4 million currently uninsured Americans within the five years.

The Health Care Freedom Plan:

Protects the right of Americans to keep their employer-based plan if they so choose.

Provides Americans without employer-based health insurance with vouchers of $2000 for individuals and $5000 for families to purchase health insurance.

Allows Americans with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) to use their HSA funds to pay for insurance premiums, encouraging employers to contribute to their employees’ HSAs.

Creates a national market for health insurance by allowing individuals to purchase health insurance plans in any state.

Provides block grants to states to develop innovative models that ensure affordable health insurance coverage for Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

Reduces predatory and frivolous malpractice lawsuits against physicians and hospitals.

Assures that every health care consumer has access to price information prior to treatment so they can make informed decisio about their care.

Repeals financial bailouts (TARP) to fund health care vouchers.

Cap and Trade: Organized Crime’s Best Friend from Financial Times
http://www.ft.com/cms…

Fraud investigators arrested nine people on Wednesday over a suspected £38m carbon credit trading scam in one of the clearest signs yet of criminals targeting international schemes to combat climate change. More than 100 Revenue & Customs officers raided dozens of properties in the south of England over an alleged cross-border fraud to evade value added tax, just weeks after the Treasury imposed emergency rules in an effort to curb the problem. Trading in carbon credits – allowances for companies to produce greenhouse gases – has been dogged by problems, from legal but ethically dubious practices to alleged scams involving fictitious products. Anand Doobay, a partner at Peters & Peters, a City-based law firm specialising in financial crime, said the ethereal nature of the fast-expanding multi-billion dollar international market in carbon credits had made them an attractive target for graft: “There is an increasing amount of fraud connected with them as a commodity. It’s trading with something that’s intangible, and that isn’t regulated in the way some other commodities are.”

GEPAC issued the following letter to GE employees soliciting contributions so that it can support politicians who make money for the company, including with respect to the Waxman-Markey climate bill, financial services reform and military spending.
…The intersection between GE’s interests and government action is clearer than ever. GEPAC is an important tool that enables GE employees to collectively help support candidates who share the values and goals of GE. While we must continue to engage elected officials to help them better understand our various businesses and how legislation affects our Company and our customers, we must also make sure that candidates who share GE’s values and goals get elected to office.

Health Care Reform That Actually Works from American Thinker

“Where’s the Republican plan?” It’s one of the red herrings that apologists for Obamacare pull out of their bag of cliched talking points when pressed to justify Democrats’ attempt to grab control of 18% of the nation’s economy.

News for 08/20/2009- Obama Funds Drilling off Brazil, Bogus Obamacare Poll, Acorn and Your Diet, Cost of Healthcare in UK Telling

Obama Administration in Brazil from Wall Street Journal Underwrites Offshore Drilling

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil. But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan. The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.

Which ‘National Network of Community-Based Organizations’ Will Health-Care Bill Fund to Monitor Your Diet and Weight? from CNS News

The health care reform bill approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP) would provide federal grants to state and local governments and a “national network of community-based organizations” to “promote healthy living and reduce disparities” and to monitor people’s weight, eating, exercise habits and other individual behaviors that affect health at the community level. The language instituting the program, entitled “Community Transformation Grants,” is on pages 382-387 of the bill as posted on the committee’s Web site. The bill states that only three types of entities will be eligible to receive grants under the program: “a–(A) State government agency; (B) local government agency; or (C) national network of community-based organizations.”

Axelrod’s profits: Uh, who’s on the take from the drug lobby again?!?! from Michelle Malkin

I’ve reported several times over the last few months on Team Obama’s hefty funding from the health care industry/drug lobby — see here and here — as well on the deep pockets behind the Astroturf HCAN/SEIU/ACORN campaign. Culture of Corruption also homes in on the cozy cash deals involving Michelle Obama, Valerie Jarrett, Susan Sher, and David Axelrod to create faux grass-roots support for the University of Chicago Medical Center’s patient-dumping scheme. Now, Bloomberg’s Timothy Burger brings news about Axelrod’s latest health care conflicts of interest that will come as no surprise to those who have fully informed themselves of the Chicago way. While White House press secretary Robert Gibbs assails the motives of grass-roots activists by falsely smearing the movement as corporate-funded shills, Barack Obama’s own senior adviser and chief Astroturfer raked in millions of dollars from Big Pharma.

Two firms that received $343.3 million to handle advertising for Barack Obama’s White House run last year have profited from his top priority as president by taking on his push for health-care overhaul.
One is AKPD Message and Media, the Chicago-based firm headed by David Axelrod until he left last Dec. 31 to serve as a senior adviser to the president. Axelrod was Obama’s top campaign strategist and is now helping sell the health-care plan. The other firm is Washington-based GMMB Campaign Group, where partner Jim Margolis was also an Obama strategist.
This year, AKPD and GMMB received $12 million in advertising business from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA, that is seeking to build support for a health-care overhaul, said the coalition’s spokesman, Jeremy Van Ess.
You won’t be surprised to learn that the HEN coalition also includes left-wing Families USA, the sellouts at the AARP, and the Purple Army at the SEIU.

DEMS TO PUSH “HEALTH CARE REFORM” THROUGH WITHOUT CONSENT OF PEOPLE OR REPUBLICANS from CNN

The Obama administration is looking hard at pushing through a health care reform bill without Republican backing, top Democrats close to the White House told CNN. The Democratic majority in the Senate has been stymied in the health care debate by Republicans and conservative Democrats, leaving them short of the 60-vote filibuster-proof margin needed to pass the bill. Democratic success could depend on an obscure tactic called reconciliation, a type of budget maneuver that requires only a simple majority — 51 votes — to pass. Going it alone could be risky for Democrats, not because they couldn’t raise the votes, but because Republicans could cast it as a power play, accusing them of failing to win bipartisan support. But it’s a fight Democrats might be willing to enter. “If we have to push it through this way, no one is going to remember how messy it was,” a top White House adviser told CNN. “At the end of the day, they’ll remember we got health care reform done. A win is a win.” White House officials are beginning to lay the groundwork for such a move, telling CNN that they’ll have to take drastic measures if there’s no movement.

Healthcare in the UK and What it Foretells if Obamacare Becomes Reality from Humanevents.com

…The most compelling argument against having the government dishing out your aspirins comes from an analysis of basic economics. There is no such thing as universal free medical care. The money has to come from somewhere. The 2010 projected budget for the UK Department of Health will be £110 billion (roughly $187 billion US), most of which will go to pay for the NHS. The latest population figure for Great Britain is just over 60 million souls, of which 29 million are in the workforce. So each taxpayer is now paying roughly $6,450 per person for basic care, provided you meet certain age and pre-existing condition guidelines. Compare this with the leading complete-service private insurance program in England, BUPA, which charges $2,180 for an entire family. The government-run NHS charges 3 times more for a far inferior service. And it’s getting worse. These sums explain why the Conservative Party has not ruled out upping the Value Added Tax (VAT) to 20 percent should the next election turn out the tax and spend Labour Party. VAT (the national sales tax) is charged on most goods and service businesses in the UK. This is on top of the import duties for any foreign made products. In other words, VAT is like always tipping your ‘waitperson’ 20 percent on any dinner tab, no matter how bad the service is.

Opponents of Obamacare Screened Out of Poll on Healthcare by Helen Moore at AIP News

Late this afternoon I received a call from Harris Interactive.  They were conducting a poll with women on HealthCare. The opening questions in any survey are qualifiers. One of the two qualifying questions made no sense.  It lacked clarity and was perhaps the vaguest question I’ve ever seen in a questionnaire.  However, in another way it was brilliantly Machiavellian.

The first qualifier was:  Some people feel that people in Washington are out of touch with the rest of the country, do you agree with that statement?   The obvious response is YES, I agree.

The second qualifier was:  Some people feel they are left out of everything around them, do you agree with that statement?

I had no idea what it meant or what it referred to, therefore, I could not respond. The young man called his supervisor.  He was told if I could not respond, the interview would have to be terminated.  I wanted to hear the questions in the survey so I told him to record NO as my response.

The next questions were demographic questions, that is, where do you live, what is your education level, what is your income level, etc.   These questions always occur at the end of a survey. I asked what had happened to the questions on healthcare.  He replied my response to one of the qualifiers generated a skip pattern and so the questions on healthcare were skipped. The survey was skewed to disqualify anyone who would likely provide negative responses on Obamacare.  It was the most blatant manipulation of polling results I’ve ever seen. Be prepared to see news stories in the near future flouting poll numbers claiming there is greater support for Obamacare among the general public than is thought based on media coverage of town hall meetings  (or something to that effect ).   Dismiss those stories with a ton of salt. Obviously this poll was sponsored either by the White House or some organization in favor of Obamacare. They were looking specifically for people who see themselves as victims and further victimizing those people by using them as ploys to further the current administration’s grab for government control of citizens lives.

Small Ray of Hope for The Government (in Michigan anyway) from Campaign for Liberty

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that the rule of law is dead.  Our Founders understood that it would fall to the will of the people to hold their elected representatives to the letter of the law, namely the Constitution. Tuesday, during a Michigan Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing, a well informed group of citizen patriots made their will known in concise, humble, but realistic terms.  They reminded members of the Senate Judiciary Committee that their sworn oaths to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the Sovereign State of Michigan and its citizens is Job #1. Citizens of Michigan filled the chamber as the Judiciary Committee heard testimony in favor of SCR004/SR17, which reaffirms Michigan’s Sovereignty Under the 10th Amendment.  During opening statements, Senator Patterson and several other committee members stated that in their entire careers of public service, they had never experienced such a display of public support for a Resolution.  Patterson’s comments were punctuated with the brandishing of heavy stacks of personal petitions of support from “the People”, collected and hand-carried to his Lansing office by C4L members.  “To ignore the will of the people with a no vote”, he stated, “was tantamount to violating the oath sworn by each of us upon entering public office”. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to report SCR004/SR17 out of committee, with recommendation for approval.  The issue will now go to the full Senate for debate and vote.  A similar resolution HCR004, introduced by Representative Paul Opsommer, has been bogged down in the House Government Operations Committee, with no schedule for hearing.  A little taste of Campaign for Liberty-style citizen activism may just do the trick. It appears that the people of Michigan have finally awakened to the abuse of power being visited upon us by our out-of-control Federal Government.  Our last best hope may lie with the reassertion of State and individual sovereignty.  Nullification of unconstitutional federal law has always been the pervue of State Legislatures, and the people through the jury process.

Obama Goes Postal, Lands in Dead-Letter Office from Caroline Baum at Bloomberg.com

UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.” — Barack Obama, Aug. 11, 2009
No institution has been the butt of more government- inefficiency jokes than the U.S. Postal Service. Maybe the Department of Motor Vehicles. The only way the post office can stay in business is its government subsidy. The USPS lost $2.4 billion in the quarter ended in June and projects a net loss of $7 billion in fiscal 2009, outstanding debt of more than $10 billion and a cash shortfall of $1 billion. It was moved to intensive care — the Government Accountability Office’s list of “high risk” cases – – last month and told to shape up. (It must be the only entity that hasn’t cashed in on TARP!) That didn’t stop President Barack Obama from holding up the post office as an example at a town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, last week. What he did instead was conjure up visions of long lines and interminable waits. Why do we need or want a health-care system that works like the post office? What’s more, if the (Post Office) is struggling to compete with private companies, as Obama implied, why introduce a government health-care option that would operate at the same disadvantage? Impromptu Obamanomics is getting scarier by the day. For all the president’s touted intelligence, his un-teleprompted comments reveal a basic misunderstanding of capitalist principles. For example, asked at the Portsmouth town hall how private insurance companies can compete with the government, the president said the following:
“If the private insurance companies are providing a good bargain, and if the public option has to be self-sustaining — meaning taxpayers aren’t subsidizing it, but it has to run on charging premiums and providing good services and a good network of doctors, just like any other private insurer would do — then I think private insurers should be able to compete.”
Self-sustaining? The public option? What has Obama been doing during those daily 40-minute economic briefings coordinated by uber-economic-adviser, Larry Summers?

US School District to Begin Microchipping Students by David Gutierrez

A Rhode Island school district has announced a pilot program to monitor student movements by means of radio frequency identification (RFID) chips implanted in their schoolbags. The Middletown School District, in partnership with MAP Information Technology Corp., has launched a pilot program to implant RFID chips into the schoolbags of 80 children at the Aquidneck School. Each chip would be programmed with a student identification number, and would be read by an external device installed in one of two school buses. The buses would also be fitted with global positioning system (GPS) devices.

Obama’s State Department Submits to Islam by American Thinker (in case you missed yesterday’s late addition)

Here is but the latest act of submission to Islam by your State Department. A State Department cable has just been sent out with this announcement:
The Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) has assembled a range of innovative and traditional tools to support Posts’ outreach activities during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Here, in contrast, is the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The State Department’s Ramadan programs are wide-ranging. “On August 10,” the cable continues, “America.gov will publish a ‘Multicultural Ramadan’ feature. American Muslims trace their ancestry to more than 80 countries and the feature will highlight the richness of these various cultural traditions through the lens of Ramadan and Eid. Content will include essays by young Muslims who are part of Eboo Patel’s Interfaith Youth Core (IYC). Contact: Alexandra Abboud (AbboudAM@state.gov).” There’s more! The Bureau of International Information Programs “will publish three articles for Ramadan 2009 addressing the concept of an Islam in America ‘brand’; advocacy (civic and political) of the Muslim American community; and community innovation/community building. The writer will contact Muslim American experts in each of these fields. These articles will be available on America.gov in English, Arabic, and Persian.”
The main publication is Being Muslim In America: “Conceived as IIP’s flagship print publication on the rich and varied experiences of the nation’s growing Muslim population, this lavishly illustrated new book links the Muslim-American experience to those of other American racial, religious, and immigrant groups as they moved into the American ‘mainstream.'”
Can you imagine every Embassy and consulate putting up a Menorah and having some Rabbis as speakers via a webcast? Can you imagine if we had the Stations of the Cross put on the walls of all of our embassies, consulates, and other posts, as well as the many Department of State buildings across the country, including C Street? Why aren’t priests, pastors, etc. invited during Christmas to give blessings or talk about Christianity in the United States? Can you imagine if the Buddha were revered and we had some monks coming to do a meditation session with all of the officers of each embassy, consulate, etc.? Can we get printed and distributed Hare Krishna posters for all of our posts, so as to reach massive audiences? I mean, put it in reverse and see how crazy it is. Absolutely nuts.
Perhaps this is an initiative of President Barack Obama’s newly created Office for Outreach to the Ummah at State. In June Obama had the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, at the White House. Ihsanoglu urged Obama to appoint a U.S. ambassador to the Islamic world – and Obama immediately created a new State Department Office for Muslim Outreach, with a Muslim woman, Farah Pandith, serving as the new U.S. Special Representative for Muslim Outreach. In keeping with Obama’s U.S.-Muslim Engagement Project, a charter of dhimmitude, we are to be conditioned to respect Muslim immigrants and accept their culture.

Misleading The Public: How Social Security Really Works and Why We Are In Trouble… from Heritage.org
http://www.heritage.org/Research/SocialSecurity/em940.cfm

…The Social Security trust fund is merely an accounting device filled with IOUs that future taxpayers must repay. Far too soon, payroll taxes will be insufficient to pay all of the promised benefits. Unless Congress promptly takes action, taxpayers will have to pump hundreds of billions of additional tax dollars into Social Security to pay the promised benefits…

Furthermore, huge impending deficits are only one of the problems facing Social Security. The sad reality is that millions of workers receive a dismal rate of return on their Social Security retirement taxes. Making matters worse, the current program does not enable workers to build up investments and cash savings to supplement their monthly Social Security checks.
THE INFLUENCE GAME: Stand-ins hold lobbyist spots from AP

Rose and Zine Hosein have stand-up jobs—and get paid $15 an hour for it. The 60-something couple have the ultimate niche occupation in Washington’s influence economy, holding places in line for lobbyists outside crowded congressional hearing rooms. In Washington, where access often equals action, lobbyists consider it crucial to attend congressional hearings or similar meetings in person. It’s here that they can speak directly with key lawmakers and their staff during breaks or after the hearing. They can also see who else is in the audience and pick up subtle hints about how a lawmaker may be leaning on a subject critical to their clients. Outside a recent health care hearing, the Hoseins were among dozens of placeholders awaiting their customers. Some leaned against the wall. Others looked like limousine drivers, carrying white signs with the names of people or organizations that they were holding places for. Some consider the practice—started roughly 20 years ago—as unfair, another advantage of big money in the government’s policy-making process. Those who can’t afford a placeholder or who can’t get in line hours early may be denied a seat to watch Congress conduct the public’s business.

Americans For Prosperity’s Hot Air Tour in Indianapolis, Indiana, held in conjunction with their Patients First Bus Tour.  They had over 400 activists come out on a hot and humid day to send Senator Bayh a message to vote NO on the massive hidden energy tax known as Cap-and-Trade and Government Run Health Care. Almost every one also signed our petitions and made a call to Senator Bayh’s office to tell him they do not want any more government take over of the free market. These are real grassroots Americans who drove from hours away while taking time off from work and family to make their voices heard. School Officials Facing Criminal Charges for Prayer  from Liberty Counsel  http://www.lc.org/index.cfm?PID=14102&AlertID=1016
Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman are facing criminal contempt charges for allegedly violating a court order prohibiting prayer. The ACLU claimed the two men were responsible for a prayer of blessing over a meal at an appreciation luncheon with former booster club members and other adults who helped with a field house project. Liberty Counsel represents Principal Lay and Director Freeman. A trial is scheduled for September 17. If convicted, Mr. Lay and Mr. Freeman could be fined or jailed, yet neither willfully violated any court order. Last year the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the school district, claiming that some of the teachers and administration “endorsed” religion. Rather than fight, the district consented to a very broad order fashioned by the ACLU, essentially banning employees from engaging in prayer or religious activities, whether before, during, or after school hours. Without hearing legal argument, a federal court entered the Consent Order, which unconstitutionally infringes on the rights of teachers, administrators, and students. The ACLU then complained that Mr. Freeman and Mr. Lay violated the order at the luncheon, so a federal judge initiated criminal contempt proceedings and referred the case to the United States Attorney’s office for prosecution. Liberty Counsel says no students were present for the prayer.

EXPOSED: Big Labor Announces “Secret Plan to Destroy the Right Forever”  from Right To Work http://nrtw.org/en/blog

In a surprising display of honesty about their true agenda, union bosses and Far Left activists participated on a panel at the Netroots Nation conference called “The Secret Plan to Destroy the American Right.” What’s their “secret plan” to expand the power and size of government and raise taxes on hard-working Americans? It’s passage of the woefully misnamed Employee Free Choice Act, more accurately called the Card Check Forced Unionism Bill. Union bosses apparently see the billions of forced dues dollars that the bill would funnel into pushing Organized Labor’s radical political agenda as THE major selling point for the bill. Unfortunately for the panelists and the Big Labor hierarchy, but fortunately for the American people, there’s nothing secret about the Card Check Forced Unionism Bill and how it would obliterate the rights of American workers.  Right here on Freedom@Work, we’ve kept concerned citizens informed about this union boss power grab:

  • Expert legal analysis explaining how the Card Check Bill would destroy the secret ballot in union certification elections
  • Workers in Albion, Indiana tell Fox News about the real life intimidation they felt during a card check organizing drive by the militant United Auto Workers (UAW) union
  • A former union president testifies before Congress about the dangers of card check organizing
  • Worker explains to Senate labor committee how union goons lied to him to get him to sign a card
  • National Right to Work president Mark Mix discusses card check and union intimidation on a nationally syndicated radio program
  • At the 2009 Conservative Political Action Conference, Mix demonstrates why union bosses love card check
  • Far Left icon George McGovern writes in the Wall Street Journal about another disturbing feature of the Card Check Forced Unionism Bill: mandatory binding arbitration

VICTORY – Flag.gov Dies A Slow Death Monday

Yet Another Government Takeover of American Business by Friends of the U.S.Chamber of Commerce  http://www.friendsoftheuschamber.com/email/email4.cfm?ID=443 Another day, another assault on free enterprise. This time, it’s the Administration’s so-called Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) Act. This act is supposed to create a new bureaucracy that will protect consumers from fraudulent financial products. In truth, it is another government-run bureaucracy that will actually design financial products of its own — and then require private companies to offer these government-designed products. Free markets be damned.  The House of Representatives is currently considering this flawed bill. Email your Representative now and help stop this government takeover of the American financial system. This bill will stifle competition and put private companies out of business. It will allow big government to choose winners and losers. It will destroy choice and quality for consumers. More big government. Lower quality. Less choice.

Kathleen Sebelius Misspoke in Saying Public Option Not an Essential Part of Health Care Reform at The Minority Report http://tinyurl.com/la9hkm

Marc Ambinder: An administration official said that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius “misspoke” when she told CNN Sunday morning that a government run health insurance option “is not an essential part” of reform. This official asked not to be identified in exchange for providing clarity about the intentions of the President. The official said that the White House did not intend to change its messaging and that Sebelius simply meant to echo the president, who has acknowledged that the public option is a tough sell in the Senate and is, at the same time, a must-pass for House Democrats, and is not, in the president’s view, the most important element of the reform package.

Dems Not Backing Down On Public Option, But Stepping Up the Fight  from lp.org  http://tinyurl.com/ldx5gc
Faced with withering criticism from the independent voters who elected Obama, as well as polls showing majorities of Americans oppose their health care reform plans and would prefer government inaction to the current system, the media reported this weekend Democrats may consider removing a provision for government-run health insurance from a massive bill outlining a government takeover of the nation’s health care system. Don’t be fooled.  The so-called “public option” isn’t about to be taken off the table. The eradication of your private health insurance plans is at the very core of the entire so-called “reform” movement.  Just listen to official White House health care spokesperson Linda Douglass.  “Nothing has changed. The president has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and it must increase choice and competition in the health insurance market. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals.” House Democrats also tell the Capitol Hill newspaper Politico government-run health insurance will stay in their bill.  It’s their goal for the legislation.

The Array of WH ObamaCare Tactics Grows at American Thinker http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/08/the_array_of_wh_obamacare_tact.html   The White House is deploying an array of tactics to promote ObamaCare. Here’s the list to date.

1.  Warn about the cost of inaction.

2.  Use Grandma to build empathy through association.

3.  Accuse opponents of racial prejudice – play the race card.

4.  Shift the focus of the debate.

5.  When accused of having a controversial proposal, just say “No we don’t.”

6.  Hide the plan.

7.  Hide key congressional proponents.

8.  Pretend to give up on controversial issues that were never acknowledged in the first place.

9. Hold pro-Obamacare pep rallies that profess to be open town hall-like events.

10. Blame the media for focusing on the opponents.

11. Demonize the opposition.

12. Make false claims for Obamacare.

Obama Unaccustomed to Having His Lies Challenged  Doug Patton  at Canada Free Press http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/13860

Barack Obama is one of the most spoiled politicians ever to capture the imagination of a nation. He has enjoyed what author and newsman Bernard Goldberg has described as “a slobbering love affair” with the American media. So many members of the Fourth Estate in this country have so thoroughly compromised themselves to sell his radical agenda that the American people no longer trust them even to report the news. And now, as the president and his toadies in Congress run into a brick wall in their efforts to take over the American health care system, they are shocked to discover that many of the same people who put them in office last year are outraged at their lies. American citizens have been vilified, marginalized, lied about and smeared by these Washington hucksters. Good people, frustrated at the arrogance of their government, are being called names like a mob, Nazis, evil-mongers, terrorists, etc. Meanwhile, the president and Congress are watching the poll numbers they live by fall into the basement. I wonder why. Most of us learned in kindergarten that when you call other people names, they are not likely to react kindly. And they certainly are not likely to vote for you again. Does this president really have so little regard for the medical practitioners of this country that he believes an American physician would cut off a limb just to put money in his/her pocket? Is this how his mind works? Does he have no shame? Does he actually know of such a doctor? Does he have evidence of such a contemptible act? If so, why is he not reporting it? We all know the answer to that. He is simply a liar who will say or do anything to drive home his agenda.

Contact: Alexandra Abboud (AbboudAM@state.gov).”

There’s more!

News for 08/17/2009- Special Edition- A NEW AND BREWING CRISIS

Let’s Take A Look At Mark Lloyd, FCC Diversity Officer (Czar), and Where He Stands On Issues  by Desiree Paquette

Last Friday news broke which suggested a new agenda for the Federal Communications Commission, the government entitiy which issues licenses to broadcasters and broadcasting companies throughout the US. Under the Obama Administration, there is a new position at the FCC called the Diversity Officer. The Diversity Officer has the ability to put into place new regulations. Our new Diversity Czar has an agenda all his own, formulated over several years. This agenda entails creating a new license fee for private broadcast compaines, EQUAL TO THE ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET OF THAT COMPANY, then redistributing those fees to public broadcast stations to hire, in effect, minority talent and minority owned broadcast entities. There is not one entity who could survive paying their entire annual budget as a new tax, thus as the vast majority of privately owned broadcast entities promote and give voice to middle America, this overwhelming majority of the public would be left with NO VOICE and certainly NO DISSENTING VOICE for the policies and programs put forth by the minority far left segment of the population.

Let’s take a closer look at our new “Diversity Czar”, shall we?

Mark Lloyd has a very distinctive pedigree which cerrtainly fits the bill for a Diversity Czar. His history shows him to have started in broadcasting at NBC and CNN, then moving on to degrees from U of M and Georgetown University. According to his bio posted online at http://www.netcaucus.org/biography/mark-lloyd.shtml

Mark Lloyd is a senior fellow at the George Soros funded Center for American Progress focusing on communications policy issues, including universal service, advanced telecommunications deployment, media concentration and diversity. From the fall of 2002 until the summer of 2004, Mr. Lloyd was a Martin Luther King, Jr. visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught communications policy and wrote and conducted research on the relationship between communications policy and strong democratic communities. He also served as the executive director of the Civil Rights Forum on Communications Policy, a non-profit, non-partisan project he co-founded in 1997 to bring civil rights principles and advocacy to the communications policy debate.

Let’s take a closer look at his past positions. According to Civil Rights.org The Civil Rights Forum on Communications Policy, it deals with.. The rules that govern the National Information Infrastructure concern and impact us all. Communications policy will determine whether all citizens will be able to participate effectively in the political process, have access to the public airwaves, share in the fruits of publicly-funded research, or maintain their privacy. Communications policy is a civil rights issue. The Civil Rights Forum works to bring civil rights organizations and community groups into the current debate over the future of our media environment. The Forum is a project of the Tides Center, a national non-profit organization which manages hundreds of projects that promote change toward a healthy society — one which is founded on principles of social justice, broadly shared economic opportunity and a robust democratic process. The twin goals of the Forum are to introduce civil rights principles and advocacy to the implementation of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, and to reframe the discussion over the role of media in our society around the needs of communities and the rights of citizens.

An article posted at zimbio.com at  http://www.zimbio.com/The+Searched/articles/H7FW6nnt-NU/Mark+Lloyd+New+Chief+Diversity+FCC+Draws+Fire shows the newly appointed assoiciate general counsel and chief diversity officer at the Federal Communications Commission, is having a rough time of it during his first days on the job. Lloyd has come under fire from some right-wing media sites, after two an article Lloyd authored in 2007 urging liberals to file complaints against conservative talk radio stations came to light.

In “Forget the Fairness Doctrine,” Lloyd writes that conservative radio stations have abonded the bottom line as their primary motivator, and are purely ideological organs. He argues, however, that ressurecting the Fairness Doctrine, which forced radio and television stations to give equal time to opposing viewpoints, is not the answer. He does, however, suggest the private radio broadcasters, due to the fact that they use public airwaves, should be required to donate and support public radio.

In 2009 Center for American Progress’s Progressive Media project emerged as a major communications war room on behalf of Obama’s domestic and foreign policy agenda and CAP became a strong advocate for escalation in Afghanistan. Progressive Media is run through the Center for American Project Action Fund, the more political 5014 arm of CAP. It coordindates closely with the Common Purpose Project, an effort to create message discipline among the pro-Obama organizations, with a direct tie to the White House. The Center for American Progress — which has emerged as perhaps Washington’s most influential idea factory in the age of Obama — is launching a major new war room, to be staffed by nearly a dozen people, that will focus on driving the White House’s message and agenda, I’m told. … The new war room – which is called Progressive Media – represents a serious ratcheting up of efforts to present a united liberal front in the coming policy wars. The goal of the war room will be to do hard-hitting research that boils down complex policy questions into usable talking points and narratives that play well in the media and build public support for the White House’s policy goals. … The war room – a joint project of CAP Action Fund and Media Matters Action Network — will be headed by well-known liberal operative Tara McGuinness, who worked on John Kerry’s presidential campaign and was a major player in the anti-war movement during the Bush years.” Jennifer Palmieri is the project’s communications director.

Mark Lloyd has served on the boards of directors of dozens of national and local organizations, including the Independent Television Service, OMB Watch, the Center for Democracy and Technology, and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund. He has also served as a consultant to the Clinton White House, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Open Society Institute and the Smithsonian Institution. The Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) is a 501(3) “non-profit public policy organization dedicated to promoting the democratic potential of today’s open, decentralized global Internet,” according to its website. CDT’s stated mission is “to conceptualize, develop, and implement public policies to preserve and enhance free expression, privacy, open access, and other democratic values in the new and increasingly integrated communications medium.” In 1994, Jonah Seiger “helped found and served as Communications Director for the Center for Democracy and Technology. “CDT pursues its mission through research and public policy development in a consensus-building process based on convening and operating broad-based working groups composed of public interest and commercial representatives of divergent views to explore solutions to critical policy issues. In addition, CDT promotes its own policy positions in the United States and globally through public policy advocacy, online grassroots organizing with the Internet user community and public education campaigns, and litigation, as well as through the development of technology standards and online information resources.”

At an article from Fox News: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/10/pub-fccs-new-hire-previously-targeted-gop-radio-stations/ comes the following: The FCC’s new chief diversity officer laid out a battle plan two years ago for liberal activists to target conservative talk radio stations, and critics say they are concerned that he now will want to bring back the “Fairness Doctrine.” Mark Lloyd, who was named the associate general counsel and chief diversity officer at the Federal Communications Commission last month, is under attack for authoring a June 2007 report entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” and a subsequent essay, “Forget the Fairness Doctrine”. “What he lays out is a battle plan to use the FCC to threaten stations’ licenses with whom they do not agree with politically, and now he’s at the FCC waiting to take their calls,” Motley told FOXNews.com. “This is not about serving the local interest, it’s about political opposition.” In February, a report in the American Spectator said aides to Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., met with FCC staff to discuss ways to re-enact Fairness Doctrine policies and to apply them to the Internet as well. Both the FCC and Waxman’s office denied the report.

Bought and paid for “Community” organizations such as ACORN, far left wing organizations such as Apollo Alliance, Tides Center and Center for American Progress, and corruption in the form of SEIU, are quickly taking the place of the Constitution of The United States of America. Please take a few moments to watch this video, in which Glenn Beck explains the interconnectivity and undue influence these groups are having on the Obama Administration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Yc858QdXo&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftherealbarackobama%2Ewordpress%2Ecom%2F2009%2F07%2F29%2Fthe%2Dapollo%2Dalliance%2F&feature=player_embedded#t=29 The above video also details how the Apollo Alliance developed what became the Stimulus Bill.

Our government is turning into a Chicago style scam. Please, look for yourself and become aware. They would have you believe it’s Democrat vs Republican. IT IS NOT! It’s much different than that. Most democrats would not endorse the coruption that is gripping our government. Neither would Independents, Libertarians, Republicans.

Free speech is turning into free speech only if it agrees with the Administration’s view point. The majority of the population is being dismissed. Opportunities for citizens to speak out are being filled instead with paid operatives (see help wanted ads in column from 08/14/2009), SEIU and ACORN members, while the authentic public is locked out and left standing in the street.

There is no substitute for knowledge. Your country is being taken away from you on a daily basis. It is important that you realize what is going on. If you condone it, do nothing. If you DON’T, please do what you are able to do. Pass along informative emails, attend a local tea party. If you can afford to do so, JOIN US 09/12 for the march on Washington. details at http://912dc.org/

Breaking News… FCC has Diversity Czar Aimed To Shut Down Conservative Radio

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/14/fairness-doctrine-raises-its-ugly-head-under-new-fcc-diversity-czar/

LINK

“Local public broadcasters and regional and national communications operations should be required to encourage and broadcast diverse views and programs,” wrote Lloyd. “These programs should include coverage of all local, state and federal government meetings, as well as daily news and public issues programming.  (see link above for complete story). Congressman Dingell (D-MI) is the sponsor of this bill – CONTACT HIM AND YOUR REP TODAY TO STOP THIS BILL:

contact info for Dingell:

 http://www.house.gov/dingell/contact.shtml

This bill proposes greater FDA regulatory powers over the national food supply and food providers, namely granting it the authority to regulate how crops are raised and harvested, to quarantine a geographic area, to make warrantless searches of business records, and to establish a national food tracing system. Concurrently, the bill would impose annual registration fees of $500 on all facilities holding, processing, or manufacturing food and require that such facilities also engaged in the transport or packing of food maintain pedigrees of the origin and previous distribution history of the food. The bill is an enhancement to H.R.759, and to a lesser extent, H.R. 857, previously proposed food safety bills in the 111th Congress. It is also co-sponsored by the same Representatives as the latter two bills, although new to the line of support is Rep. Henry Waxman, chair of the House Energy and Commerce committee.

Dems and drug companies team up against… the voters? at Washington Examiner
President Obama heads to Montana for a town hall Friday, with anther one in Colorado on Saturday. Including his stop in New Hampshire, the president has chosen three of the most libertarian states in which to make his argument for a big government plan. While his team would say it’s just another example of the president dealing with opponents head-on, one starts to wonder if there isn’t a hope that Obama will have the chance to face off with, as the DNC calls them, a “Deather.” New Hampshire produced none as the selected questioners were saccharine-sweet, but today might be the day that the White House gives the microphone to a Walter Sobchak-type. The risk is another “spread the wealth around” gaffe by Obama. The reward would be the chance to show the president suffering for his efforts, but still willing to engage with a country not-quite worthy of him. The worse things get for the president on health, the more willing the administration may be to take chances. Part of the problem with refusing to believe that the opposition to the plan is actually organic is that Democrats stop listening entirely and treat real concerns of senior citizens and small business owners as part of some crazy conspiracy.
IS Obamacare Consistent With Our First Principles? by Heritage Foundation

The proposed health care legislation is just as bad, if not worse, than TARP. Sec. 142 of HR 3200 grants the new Orwellian titled “Health Choices Commissioner” broad lawmaking authority including the power to set standards for every Americans health insurance plan, to determine which of your current insurance plans do or do not meet that standard, and then to punish plans that do not meet that standard. Even worse is what is not yet in the bill, but is desperately wanted by the Obama administration. A super-empowered Medicare Payment Advisory Commission that is specifically designed to “save money in an apolitical, technocratic way”. The entire purpose of this part of Obamacare would be to take medical decisions away from patients and vest it in a panel of experts specifically designed to be completely unaccountable to the American people. Is this what the Framers of the Constitution had in mind? When the Constitution was being ratified, James Madison, writing as Publius, sought to allay fears that the new national government would turn into a Leviathan. In the 45th Federalist Paper he emphasized that adoption of the Constitution would create a government of enumerated, and therefore strictly limited, powers. Madison said: “The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined… [and] will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce….” Federal tax collectors, Madison assured everyone, “will be principally on the seacoast, and not very numerous.” Exactly six months after publication of this essay, New York became the 11th state to ratify the Constitution. Is turning over one-sixth of our nation’s economy over to Obama’s super-MedPAC panel in any way consistent with this vision?

The Daily Kos and the Shadows that Lurk Within by Common Sense From Common Man
…Government run Medicare with a staggering $37 TRILLION of unfunded debt.  Shadow wants to make it seem like 100% of Americans has a 50/50 chance of getting their health insurance canceled.  In fact, when you actually look at the numbers, it’s the top 1 percentile of people with high medical expenses, greater than $35,543 who have a chance of getting their health insurance canceled.  You can see for yourself right here. Let’s also discuss auto insurance as well.   Why should anyone have to pay higher auto insurance premiums because they have a higher incident of traffic accidents, right?  Let’s abolish all pre-existing records of accidents, traffic violations, and theft of cars too. Should we take a look and discuss reform on preexisting condition insurance? Yes it’s worth discussing it and further studying it before making inflated claims.  Let’s also discuss how allowing health insurance companies to sell plans across state lines can increase competition and reduce the risk pool (a favorite of the current Administration).  While we’re at it let’s address tort reform as well (a taboo of the current Administration as trial lawyers gave millions to them).  These will lead to lower costs for ALL Americans… See Fleckenstein Debunk all ten talking points at link above.

Obama, Bush and the Limits of Power at Campaign for Liberty
It should now be beyond dispute that the Obama administration represents a continuation, solidification and expansion of the Bush legacy, with some minor changes in some areas and a vast acceleration of government growth in others. And yet, as we can joyously witness, the president is running into problems.
The most conspicuous feature of the Bush years was the nearly invincible faith in government power in the realm of national security. So pronounced was this trust in the national security state, war on terror, and U.S. empire, that the opposing Democrats, many of whom dissented from the Iraq war and the worst excesses in executive spying, detention and torture, looked reasonable in comparison. Many conservatives and libertarians even favored the Democrats in the 2006 election in hopes of reining in the profligate and warmongering Republicans. Eventually, Bush and the neoconservatives ran into a wall. The Iraq war continued to consume American and Iraqi lives but the democracy and peace that were promised never came. After the administration’s incompetent handling of Katrina in 2005, the Republicans began losing support among moderates, who became increasingly frustrated with the mounting deficits, the erosion of their liberties and the prolonged war abroad. Then, in 2008, the financial sector collapsed, despite the Republican presidential candidate’s insistence that the “fundamentals of the economy” were sound. By November, the GOP had been marginalized. The economic crisis has breathed new life into the Democratic agenda of corporate socialism and expansive federal government at home, just as the national security crisis of 9/11 had tipped popular opinion toward the Republican agenda of preventive war and attacks on our civil liberties. But it had took years for Bush and his team to lose support among the political center, whereas we are witnessing support for Obama unravel much more quickly. This could all turn around, of course, but we have reasons to be hopeful. Obama’s health care plan, his most ambitious domestic policy program, is in peril. Although he has a solid Democratic majority in both Congressional houses, politicians are vulnerable to public opinion, and opinion is split. Some polls show a slight majority supportive of his plan. But in the last few weeks, polls have also shown a larger percentage opposed than in favor. Senior citizens, one of the demographics that was supposed to benefit the most from Obamacare, are the most skeptical group. In order to get his plan through, Obama has to court two groups of Democrats — those who are relatively fiscally conservative and are skeptical of socialized medicine, and those on the far left who do not want too many compromises with the insurance industry and desire a full-blown single-payer system. Meanwhile, the Congressional Budget Office has undermined one of the administration’s central claims, that the health care proposal will cut costs. The CBO has detracted in other ways from Obama’s economic agenda, warning that Obama’s deficit may be four times as high as the already ridiculously large deficit from Bush’s last year in office. In February, the CBO determined that Obama’s stimulus program could be harmful to economic recovery in the long run. And the people are feeling the failure, so far, of Obama’s economic program. Much of the public remembers the warnings that without the bailouts the sky would fall and they recall the promises that the stimulus would give an immediate boost to the economy. As Goldman Sachs reports record earnings and yet unemployment continues to rise, many Americans are detecting a bait and switch and are altogether unimpressed with Obama’s handling of the economy. Here we see the two major limits on government power in play. One is public opinion. As political theorist Franz Oppenheimer and others have pointed out, government operates, in the end, with the tacit consent, or at least acquiescence, of the people. No matter what form of government, from a dictatorship to a pure democracy, the government requires social legitimacy in the eyes of enough of the public to do what it does. Public ideology is key. If a majority is strongly opposed to the government’s operations, eventually something has to give. It is the importance of public opinion that explains why governments, whether ostensible republics or autocracies, would ever utilize censorship, propaganda, or control of the public school system and media to shore up public support for their works. Constitutions alone cannot limit government. The overwhelming bulk of what the federal government is engaged in, from imperial wars to drug prohibition, from Social Security to Medicare, is unauthorized by the Constitution, and yet they persist. What matters ultimately is the Constitution in the hearts and minds of the people. So long as the American public supports unconstitutional actions, such actions will commence. Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, as Jefferson noted. The Constitution spells out great limits on the government, but without the support of the people, the document loses its teeth.

Just A Friendly Reminder…. If you have not yet turned in the President and others in Washington (both parties) for promoting and diseminating incorrect and self serving (aka “fishy”) information  via media and blog sites about the health care bill.. please take a moment and drop an email to flag@whitehouse.govThanks!

News for 08/14/2009- Turmoil Continues and So Does Harrassment of Citizens

We Won’t Let Granny Die? at Canada Free Press http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/13698

When the President assured the crowd at a recent town hall meeting on health care that their grandmothers were safe under his proposed health care plan (whatever that is) and that rumors of rationing and D.E.A.T.H. (Department of Euthanasia And Triage of Humans) [see “Shut Up and Hand Me the Wrench!‚” The Future of Health Care Under Obama Universal Care for Health (O.U.C.H.)‚” July 16, 2009 CFP.) Committees were simply right wing extremist propaganda, my first thought was: really? Just how credible is Obama the Secular on the issue of life and where did this newfound compassion come from? Since a single payer plan is inevitable if Obama gets his way, since private insurers (villains, according to Obama and Pelosi) will be driven out of the industry to be replaced in time by government regulated fees, doctor salaries, and low premiums set by Congress; and given the fact that the government does not run many things well and cost overruns are inevitable, how can he, or we, be certain that the government will not be forced to ration health care? It is as certain as the sunrise. And when the time comes to make hard judgments about cutting federal costs, it is a certainty that the elderly and the dying will be screened by politically appointed bureaucrats who must, of necessity make hard decisions about the worth of a human life and the cost-benefit ratio involved in sustaining their lives. But more to the point: from where does this newfound compassion for life come? And how credible is Obama on the issue of life to begin with? Considering the fact that this president is the most pro-death president in history, we should take with a grain of salt his statement that Granny is safe. Frankly, given his past track record, I fear for your Granny and mine.

ANOTHER NON-REPRESENTING REPRESENTATIVE:

Dem Congresswoman Throws Out “Disorderly” Town Hall Goers (39 second video)http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/08/13/dem_congresswoman_throws_out_disorderly_town_hall_goers.html WHY IS IT THEY KEEP SAYING THEY DON”T HAVE TO LISTEN TO US UNTIL WE LISTEN TO THEM? Democrats on Thursday mounted a broad counteroffensive against Republicans to try to reverse growing opposition to their health care plans and win back an electorate increasingly sympathetic to town-hall protesters. Americans for Stable Quality Care — which is funded by Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the American Medical Association and the Service Employees International Union, among others — Thursday also launched a massive $12 million ad campaign defending President Barack Obama’s and other Democrats’ efforts to reform the health care system.

Internal Memo Details White House Deal With Big Pharma from Huntington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/13/internal-memo-confirms-bi_n_258285.html

A memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week. The memo, which according to a knowledgeable health care lobbyist was prepared by a person directly involved in the negotiations, lists exactly what the White House gave up, and what it got in return. It says the White House agreed to oppose any congressional efforts to use the government’s leverage to bargain for lower drug prices or import drugs from Canada — and also agreed not to pursue Medicare rebates or shift some drugs from Medicare Part B to Medicare Part D, which would cost Big Pharma billions in reduced reimbursements. In exchange, the Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufacturers Association (PhRMA) agreed to cut $80 billion in projected costs to taxpayers and senior citizens over ten years. Or, as the memo says: “Commitment of up to $80 billion, but not more than $80 billion.”

Obama’s Green Jobs Czar is Co-founder of Group Leading Attacks on Glenn Beck By Proud American

http://www.the-912-project.com/glenn-beck-show/2009/08/13/obamas-green-jobs-czar-is-co-founder-of-group-leading-attacks-on-glenn-beck/

A new attack has been released against FOX News talk show host, Glenn Beck. President Obama’s “Green Job Czar” is the co-founder of an African-American activist group that has developed a campaign to attack the sponsors of Glenn Beck’s show. Many of us who have followed Glenn over the years, know how he is passionate about pointing out major wrong doings. In recent weeks he has made it a point to expose those who surround our new President. He has primarily concentrated on the specially appointed czars that have created a great deal of concern amongst the American Citizens and politicians from both parties. Several segments have been done on Van Jones, himself. Beck has exposed Jones’ involvement in Colors of Change along with many other interesting details of his past. As a way of reliating the group Colors of Change has led a strong campaign against Beck, by attacking major companies sponsoring FOX News. It seems their anger stemmed from comments that Beck made where he stated that President Obama was a racist with a deep-seated hatred for white people. Folks, I believe this is only one of many attacks to come against top-rated FOX News talent Glenn Beck and We The People. This is beginning to turn into a vicious battle that stemmed from the attacks against our American Liberties and the good people of America who are willing to step outside their comfort zones to stop the evil wrong doings against America.

Are Democrats losing August? by Politico.com http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0809/26095.html

After an intimate White House lunch last week, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley said he was confident President Barack Obama was working toward a truly bipartisan health care reform bill. But then he went home to Iowa, and the message changed. In a series of tough town halls, he fueled fears of death panels and benefits for illegal immigrants. He suggested the White House would push a purely partisan bill. And he proclaimed himself an outsider in health care negotiations. “I’m not walking away from the table; I’m being pushed away from the table,” Grassley said in Afton, Iowa, warning that Democrats might go it alone on health care . Grassley’s Iowa road show shows just why Democrats feared this August recess. If the Democrats lose Grassley, the top Republican negotiator on the Senate Finance Committee, they very likely lose any hope of a bipartisan bill. Even worse, if Grassley bails, then conservative Democrats like Ben Nelson may follow. While Grassley has always criticized the process in the Senate, his fresh criticisms, before the home state crowd, are magnified as contentious town hall scenes are repeated across the country. And if the August unrest has spooked a safe, respected senior senator like Grassley, it can’t be good sign for the dozens of much more vulnerable moderates from both parties, who worry that the wrong vote on health care could cost them the job next year.

AARP Corrects Obama: It Has Not Endorsed Health Care Reform Package at CNS News
The AARP, the nation’s largest advocacy group for seniors, corrected a statement by President Barack Obama yesterday that indicated the group was “endorsing” the health-care plan being developed in Congress. “We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors,” Obama said at one point. AARP Chief Operating Officer Tom Nelson issued a statement saying that the organization has not endorsed any legislation.  “While the President was correct that AARP will not endorse a health care reform bill that would reduce Medicare benefits, indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate,” Nelson said.
Well.. OK… Check out this video of the AARP meeting held in Dallas a week or so ago:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoMNDdQ1_h0
Problem is AARP stopped being advocates of seniors when they became an insurance company… but many do not realize this. Sure does explain the attitude of their spokesperson here, huh?

(House Un-American Activities Committee) HUAC is Back! at CNS News
http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=52322
When the Soviet Union was threatening to bury the United States this was big stuff. The U.S. House of Representatives even had a whole committee devoted to nothing but sniffing out McCarthy’s Commies. It was called the House Un-American Activities Committee: HUAC. In 1947, this was the committee which held hearings into the influence of communists in Hollywood. Called before the committee to testify about who else might be a Communist was the end of a career in acting, directing or writing because the studios simply refused to hire someone who was connected to the Red Scare. So, Nancy and Steny have resurrected those glory days of demonizing dissent by calling those who are attending town halls and announcing their opposition to the nationalization of our health care system (whether that’s what is in the bills or not) “un-American.” Let’s go to the rule book. The Constitution of the United States. Says here in the very first Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” Note the construct of this Amendment. Each of the freedoms is separated by the word “or:” Religion, speech, press … Then look at the last clause: “… or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The petitioning the government for a redress of grievances is part of the right of the people to peaceably assemble. Ok, you say, but is shouting at a town hall “peaceably” assembling? Who is going to make that call? How loud is too loud? When does too loud become no longer “peaceable” and thus un-American?  Do union hires pounding on the bottoms of large plastic tubs for hours on end to protest a non-union construction project in downtown DC count as “peaceably” assembling? Or are they un-American?  And the “facts themselves?” The facts themselves are Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer sent their caucus home without a clue as to what they were supposed to be selling.  So, what Pelosi and Hoyer really want is to have Americans accept anything the Federal government chooses to impose upon us with no dissent, no discussion, no pesky First Amendment. That, my friends, sounds un-American. Maybe we do need to bring back HUAC.
We’ve been focusing on HR3200.. Now let’s look at Senate Bill 703

Obama Failed to Master Alinsky’s Rule #12 by American Thinker

Alinsky’s 12th Rule of Tactics:  The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.
You cannot risk being trapped by the enemy in his sudden agreement with your demand and saying, ‘You’re right – we don’t know what to do about this issue.  Now you tell us.’
Why is President Barack Obama suddenly drowning in a sea of widespread resistance to his centerpiece legislation?  Because it has now become quite clear to Harry & Louise Q Citizen that this was a man without a “constructive alternative” to the out-of-control healthcare system he has badgered and rhetorically beaten bloody to a pulp. Obama himself, Organizer in Chief, had no plan.  He proposed no plan to Congress.  He has let committee after committee of witless tax-and-spend, haggard old liberals write the convoluted mess they’re calling healthcare reform, and has virtually done nothing for own his part but bash the insurance companies, the doctors and even the patients, who ask for individual control over their own life-and-death choices. This, dear readers, is the fundamental difference between an empty-suited celebrity and a nuts-and-bolts executive:  flim-flam artistry vs. substance and real results.

In Congo, Hillary Clinton Suggests Government Ownership of Industry Would be a Good Thing at CNS News
How can you help this country?” Christian Lusakueno of the Congolese television station Raga TV asked Clinton.“The future of this country is up to the Congolese people,” said Clinton. “The choices as to what direction you go are truly yours to make. “For example, the country has an extremely rich reservoir of natural resources,” she continued. “Right now, the benefits from those resources are not ending up broadly developing the country. They are either being taken out of the country or they are ending up in the hands of a very few people. There are models for what has worked elsewhere. The model that Botswana used when it discovered diamonds–it made sure there was a trust fund created for the country so that all of the money didn’t leave the country. In order to let a company like De Beers exploit their diamonds, they said we want to own 20 percent of the company. And as a result, if you go to Botswana, you see good roads, you see clean water, because the people and their leaders said we’re not going to be exploited and we’re not going to let the benefits end up in a very few hands.” Brett Schaefer, a fellow in International Regulatory Affairs at the conservative Heritage Foundation, said of Clinton’s statement: “Her phrasing was extremely clumsy.” “I think it’s probably a mistake to urge the government to have a control, or a controlling stake, in these types of industries because government historically, especially in Africa, has been particularly prone to corruption and mismanagement,” said Schaefer.

News for 08/12/2009-The Truth In Their Own Words

As I listened to our President get started at his “townhall” in NH yesterday, I heard him say he hopes we can talk to each other and not over each other. Well, actually, there is no dialogue at all. It is just the government officials pretending to talk to citizens, not listening to the voices of the voters who put them there. News reports have townhall organizers giving preferential seating to ACORN and SEIU members, while the real (actual and unpaid) citizens are left locked out or put in the back in many cases. It is all a total farce. He says the disgruntled citizens are angry due to the plethora of disinformation about health care reform. Really? No. We are angry because he said he would be transparent and is not. We are angry because he said he would give us time to debate, but tries not to. We are angry because when we speak out, no one in government or media listens. We are angry because instead of listening, he calls us names and dismisses us. Hopefully, anyone who is dismissing the voices of the voters will loose their voice in the next election, or by recall, whichever comes first.

Trust The Government by Newt Gingrich

http://www.humanevent…

How much is one additional year of your life worth? Or one more year of life for your father or your wife? For your child? In Great Britain, the government has settled on a number: $45,000. That’s how much a government commission with the Orwellian acronym NICE has decided British government-run health care will pay for one additional year of life for a British subject. Think it could never happen here? Then you need to pay closer attention to what Washington is planning for your health care. The British single-payer bureaucrats arrived at the price of an additional year of life in the same way they decide how much healthcare all British people will get, through a formula called “quality-adjusted life years.” That means that if you’re sick in Great Britain, government bureaucrats literally decide if your life is worth living and, if so, how much longer and at what cost. If it’s more than $45,000, you’re out of luck. In the highest levels of the Obama Administration there is a theory of how to ration health care that is troublingly reminiscent of the British system of “quality-adjusted life years.” Dr. Ezekial Emanuel is a key health care advisor to President Obama and the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Earlier this year, Dr. Emanuel wrote an article that advocated what he called “the complete lives system” as a method for rationing health care. You can read it here. The system advocated by Dr. Emanuel would allocate healthcare based on the government’s perception of the societal worthof the patients. Accordingly, the very young and the very old would receive less care since the former have received less societal investment and the latter have less left to contribute. “The Complete Lives System” would also consider the prognosis of the individual. Quoting Dr. Emanuel: “A young person witha poor prognosis has had few life-years but lacks the potential to live a complete life. Considering prognosis forestalls the concern that disproportionately large amounts of resources will be directed to young people with poor prognosis.” When fully implemented, Dr. Emanuel’s system, in his words, “produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most substantial chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.” “Chances that are attenuated” is a nice way of saying the young and the old are considered less worthy of health care and, under this system, will get less. The point is not that a health care rationing system like the one favored by Dr. Emmanuel will be implemented in the United States tomorrow. The point is that, as in the British system, once government becomes the single payer or even the main payer of healthcare, what were once intensely personal decisions become public decisions. And as costs rise, government will look for ways to contain them. The inevitable result of this pressure to control costs will be rationing, whether it occurs during this administration or the next. At some point, the government will be forced to deny care to those who don’t meet the latest “quality-adjusted life years” cost-benefit analysis. So the decision on what treatment to pursue that once would have been made by you and your doctor is now made for you by a bureaucrat using a formula — a formula to literally determine if your life is worth saving.

SO WHY ARE WE SPEAKING OF SINGLE PAYER HEALTH PLAN WHEN THE PRESIDENT CLEARLY STATED THIS IS NOT IN THE BILL?:

Obama Says (direct quote):

“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program. I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out. A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

CHECK THE BILL OUT FOR YOURSELF – A Little Light Reading Tonight? – Here’s the Health Care Bill
http://edlabor.house…….
The more of us that read it, the more they will HAVE to read it.

I must ask these two questions: If the bill is so very good and will make so many of us happy, why then does it not take effect until AFTER the next Presidential election?

I must also ask if it’s so good, why will Senators and Congresspeople not even entertain the idea of scrapping their special health care plan and opting in?

Citizens Thrown Out Of A Georia Townhall For Mentioning the Constitution by Campaign For Liberty

http://www.campaignfo…

The meeting was last night, at the Georgia 4th Congressional district in Clarkston, held by Congressman Hank Johnson (D). The facilities of the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College were used. A number of us liberty-minded folks (C4L and otherwise), and some GOP faithful showed up to ensure, at the minimum, skepticism accounted for and to see a real debate fostered over the proposed national health care legislation. As far as I know there was no “right wing” or otherwise organized effort to “swamp” the meetings. By contrast, it was obvious that organized left-wing groups turned out in force. People sporting “Teamster” colors were plentiful, as well as Obama acolytes and “single payer” health care system advocacy groups.

The original time for the meeting was 7pm. Within the day before, it was mysteriously moved up to 6:15 — perhaps to make sure that working people hit the maximum rush hour. No matter; I got there around 5:30, so I got an early-enough place in line to get into the main auditorium. It was pathetically small for the crowd lined up “around the block” to attend the meeting, so only a small portion of the crowd got in. Me and some C4Lers were among them. Others ended up in overflow rooms, having become spectators, watching the proceedings on large TVs. I first got a bad feeling about the whole event being orchestrated when police started warning people not to bring cameras in. No cameras? At a public meeting on a public facility? That’s odd. Well, they weren’t going to stop me from making a voice recording using my small sansa mp3 player.

…And perhaps the most important general comment from those queued up came from a gentleman (I cannot recall his appearance) who expressed confusion at the many bills, but asked if we could somehow have a town meeting when a single bill had been settled on, but before it had passed. Tellingly, Hank Johnson sputtered and bumbled, but finally responded that no, it was not likely we could actually debate the bill that was going to be passed. But, he said, we could certainly have a town hall meeting after the bill had passed! This drew laughs and hackles from the entire crowd. Johnson responded bizarrely by launching into diversionary criticism of the Blue Dog Democrats and Republicans, capping off with an exhortation that we “have gotta do something” (nationally, of course).
This was perhaps the most telling interaction about how the whole system works: we are to be swamped by a confusion of conflicting principles and directives and details, and end up arguing with each other about things that perhaps are in only one version of a bill or another (or none at all), which may or may not appear in a final bill. Then the bill will be passed quickly by congress, after its usual horse trading, and we’ll be unravelling the monstrosity for months if not years to come. This process belies utter contempt for the citizenry and perhaps reveals that our government has reached a stage where it simply cannot function if proposed legislation is clearly and methodically open to scrutiny.

The session was in its final few minutes when the “big confrontation” happened. While the “critics” had been booing, cheering, and heckling Johnson and others from the floor the whole time (and the whole audience was certainly guilty of applausing and cheering out of turn), it was not until C4Ler Sean Mangieri bellowed out “where in the Constitution does it authorize you to do this?” that some sort of invisible line was crossed. Johnson began responding, fumbling a bogus justification that the “general welfare clause” gives the government authority to do anything, but apparently the order had been given. The police came over and tapped me on the shoulder, apparently thinking it was me who had made the remark; to which I said “I didn’t say anything.” Various people in the audience pointed to Sean, who was sitting next to me, and he was “tapped out” by the police. However, they returned anyway and told me I had to go as well and this was my “last chance”. When I protested again that I didn’t say anything, the reply was “it doesn’t matter, they want you out.” Two other people we know were thrown out in this sweep as well, one of whom had just been “warned” not to shout any more comments, but was ejected without having said anything additional. I have the whole session up until that point recorded (audio only; 23MB mp3). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOlB5KZE644 video
